hpecorari Posted March 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) That's the question. Which is better going through the Panama Canal on the Pearl? Aft or Fwd? Been through the Canal before on the Star and had Starboard balcony. However, this will be the first time for my niece. So, which way should I go this time.....Aft SF or Forward SE? Thanks! LoveyHowell Posted March 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2015 My personal preference would be forward.
triptolemus Posted March 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2015 I'm an aft guy... but would definitely go forward for PC.
TrumpyNor Posted March 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2015 My personal preference would be forward. Ditto - the view from the forward facing ones is more spectacular. But be aware that the forward facing cabins/suites are usually picked up very early - so you have to be "quick". Same with the aft facing ones, but aft there are usually more cabins and categories to choose from than forward facing ones...
Kamloops50 Posted March 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2015 Forward is probably the best . I would expect your niece to be all over the ship to really experience the Panama Canal transit.
Ilovesailing Posted March 24, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2015 We just did this cruise again in Jan. and had an aft cabin in order to get 180 degree view plus you will have a ship behind you see what thos forward will see. It is very hot and humid so those on the upper decks can't stay out very long. So another advantage to aft is that you can go in and out of your cabin. hpecorari Posted March 24, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted March 24, 2015 Thanks for your replies. I know both would be great and just need to decide which is best. On my Star cruise I did a B2B with a starboard balcony, however, the Captain invited us up to the bridge and we were there for over two hours and that was unbelievable! However, as this is the first time for my niece I need to decide Aft or Forward! LOL Harriet
LoveyHowell Posted March 24, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2015 Flip a coin but don't look at it. While it is mid-air what you really want will become clear.
NYteacher Posted March 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2015 If the aft is a wrap-around I would say definitely go for the aft. You will get a lot more use out of your aft balcony on sea days, I have stayed in a few acts and they are out of the wind.

Cruising through the Panama is VERY hot....the wind might be welcomed! Harriet
