nb125 Posted March 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2015 Hi, we are planning for our first cruise with Fred and wonder if anyone can help us decide between Medieval Luneburg and Lubeck and Micro Brewery. If anyone has done either of these trips we would be grateful for your input.
Coravel Posted March 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2015 I've been to Lubeck but from Travemunde not Hamburg which is much farther away. The city is unspoilt with its medieval buildings and narrow streets. The church has a 14th century astronomical clock if I remember correctly. nb125 Posted March 25, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted March 25, 2015 Thanks for replying. I like the sound of this one but DH prefers the microbrewery. Can't think why:)
Coravel Posted March 25, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2015 Breweries and distilleries are always disappointing and have an expensive outcome. :D
tartanexile81 Posted March 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 27, 2015 We used to live in Northern Germany and Luneburg was one of our favourite towns to visit with lots of interesting, typically German old buildings. I'd definitely go for that. Your OH can visit a micro-brewery in this country but you'll never get the chance to visit Luneburg again
Coravel Posted March 28, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2015 Buy him a home brew kit from Boots and he can be Managing Director of his own microbrewery. :D
leonardofan Posted April 8, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Lubeck is the world capital of marzipan;)
nb125 Posted April 24, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted April 24, 2015 We decided on Luneburg but unfortunately it has been withdrawn so it will have to be Lubeck. Thanks for the input everyone.
Mr&MrsHendricks Posted April 25, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Hello there! You won't be disappointed with Lubeck in the slightest! It's a beautiful city. We visited a couple of years ago, but rather than do the ship's tour, we wandered up to the main Hamburg railway station (hauptbahnhof), bought a couple of tickets and jumped on the direct train. Lubeck Hbf is less than a mile from the city centre, and an easy stroll that took 10-15 mins max. We tend to avoid ships tours when we can, and find it good fun to go under our own steam where possible. And save quite a bit of money too!! Have a super trip!! Regards, Mr. H. Rare Eglesbrech Posted April 26, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 26, 2015 Perhaps you have been before but did you consider just walking into Hamburg from the port rather than a trip? It is a truly lovely city with great shopping and some interesting tours that you can do DIY for example the "rundfart" (sic)river trip which is really interesting. Just a thought. Enjoy whatever you end up doing.
