I hope the OP made it okay, too. I've had to fly in the same day as embarkation for work reasons in the past, but don't plan to do it again. Too stressful.

 

Would assume since there has not been a weeping and wailing followup to the OP that they did make it. Hope it wasn't too stressful.

Trust me, we both appreciated all the suggestions we received last week. It is in our nature to finger wave but hindsight is 20/20. Yes we will learn from this as this was our first cruise and will handle things differently next time. We have know one to blame but ourselves but.. we manged to get their using plan b.
