BigMember Posted September 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2005 I've searched Cruise Critic, and phoned Carnival. Does anyone have a list they would share of which Ports require Tendering, and which Ports do not? I understand that some ports can be very busy on a particular day, and tendering amy still be required. Does anyone know which posts this may happen to? I've got bits and pieces, but would love a definitive list, and I'm sure others would too. Thanks a million.
wwinfl91 Posted September 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2005 Here is a link to something like 430 different ports, It has links to those ports and probably by going through them you ultimately could put together a list. The problem you get into is some ports like St Thomas it depends on how many ships are visiting that day whether you tender or dock. There are some that are tender only but more and more the more popular ones are putting in docks to handle 1 or 2 ships. Almost forgot the link. http://www.seacruisereviews.com/portsofcall.asp Good luck in your quest.
wwinfl91 Posted September 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 7, 2005 After I posted the above information I decided to check on my and my wife's memory and pictures of our cruises to see if I could figure out which ports we have visited are tender and which are docked ports. Hootsie Posted September 9, 2005 #12 Share Posted September 9, 2005 Any port can be a tender. We tendered at Cozumel because there were so many ships in the port. You just never know.

Steamboatin Posted October 8, 2005 #16 Share Posted October 8, 2005 We have on more than one occassion tendered at a port that had docks available for cruise ships and still tendered into the city. The reasons we tendered at the port with cruise vessel docks were: 1. Weather conditions were too bad to safely allow the cruise vessel to dock. 2. Once there were more cruise vessels in port than the port had docks to accomodate them. 3. Once a city was repairing its cruise vessel dock forcing all cruise vessels in port to tender in. Thus cruise vessels visiting cities with cruise vessel docks still will tender passengers in under certain conditions. Therefore, tendering is possible at any port at some point in time eventhough the city has cruise vessel docks.
Bookbug53 Posted October 8, 2005 #17 Share Posted October 8, 2005 Just curious. What dock is used in Bar Harbor, Maine?
wwinfl91 Posted October 8, 2005 #18 Share Posted October 8, 2005 I don't think cruise ships dock in Bar Harbor. I believe they all have to tender. When we were there I sure didn't see any dock big enough for a cruise ship. By the way that was a mistake in my list above. Have a great next cruise.
