A coworker told me that On board , NCL like charges a fee to break down larger bills like a hundred or a twenty into smaller bills... is that true ?? If so can you get change from the casino .ie buy in for $100 in chips and promptly cash them out ??!

Not true.

The cashier will happily give you change.

There is a fee for cash advances from your shipboard account or credit card, but that's not what you asked.

Perhaps your friend was confusing the fee that NCL does charge to change currency on board the ship. I have never done it myself but if I recall correctly that fee was $10.00 per transaction. Frankly I think it you would be better off using an ATM for that. In the casino you can go the cashier, the bill breaking ATM, or just stick your money in a slot machine and hit collect. Walk to the cashier and say small bills please. :)

When I was just on the Epic, they gave me a hard time in the casino breaking more than one $5 into singles......actually had better luck working with the servers to get it done as the week progressed.......just like a cruise ship to give you a hard time to tip their servers with dollars....but did not hear about any fees there when breaking $100 into $20 bills.......

18% with a $7.95 convenience fee. $4.95 if on the Getaway. :D

The was $30 to break. 20. that's right ! More of a fee than the value of the $$. Maybe it is just on European cruises. many others were as shocked as we were. Maybe they ARE trying to reduce the amount of cash tips to staff as was previously mentioned

I just got off the Norwegian Star on Sunday (Mar29) and there was no fee to use the change machine in the casino.

After cashing out, I noticed one of my hundreds was pretty badly torn, so I turned back to ask to exchange it... and noticed the cashier line went from empty to around the corner. So I popped it into the change machine and got 20x5$ and a penny. (Yes, it came out in all fives, and I'm sure the penny dropped after.)
