LEGEND March 20-30,2015 REVIEW w/lots of photos

Recommended Posts

I've been realistic on my ratings on previous reviews, so bare with me and my perception of things from Legend and see if you agree with your experience:

  • "5" is a pass, but just barely...
  • 6 ok
  • 7 is good but not memorable
  • 8 very good, memorable, but not the best ever
  • 9 totally excellent, have recommended or raved
  • 10 the best EVER

Food:

  • Chops 10 (totally memorable, best Chops I've experienced on any ship)
  • Izumi 6 (I have way too good Asian food in my hometown)
  • MDR 8
  • WJ 7.5
  • CL 7 (not a bad space, great view)
  • Food overall 7.5 (chops was the major hilight on the 3 nights)

Entertainment:

  • Production Shows 6.5
  • Singers 7.5 (Rachel was outstanding)
  • Dancers 7
  • Headliner 7
  • Caribbean pool band 6 (big time disappointment.... boring)
  • Latino Band 0 .... none!!!
  • Centrum 3 piece band 6
  • Activity Director and staff 7.5 (trivia, dancing, events)
  • CD Paul Rutter 6 (perfect for this older demographic and vibe of this ship)
  • Overall Entertainment 6.5

Venues:

  • Sports Deck 5
  • Viking Crown 5 (too much space taken by Izumi & Chops)
  • Centrum 7
  • Casino 7 (played poker, did not smell like smoke, nice room)
  • R-Bar 7
  • Anchors Aweigh Lounge 7
  • Pool Deck 7.5
  • Solarium 8 (I thought the Solarium here much better than her larger sisters Vision & Rhapsody, a very nice Solarium on this ship)
  • Overall venues 7 (just can't compare with the newer ships]

Excursions:

  • St John 7 (RCL snorkel)
  • St Kitts 8 (catamaran with BlueSafari)
  • Dominica 9.5 (Sheppee)
  • Antigua 8 (Gordon's)
  • St Marten N/A (did our thing, awesome day!!!!)

People

Fellow Cruises 10+++++++ (awesome friendships once again on this sailing both inside and out of the CL/DL, and of course spending time with great cruise buddies Stan & Noelle was special for us)

Staff 10 (superb service throughout the ship)

Overall 7 - "good but not memorable"

The incredibly great itinerary, the people (both staff and fellow cruisers), my aft cabin, and the overall service were hilights here and brought this cruise experience up from a 6. Without the itinerary, great service and the experience of my excellent cabin to go home to each night, this ship just does not match up to the many others in my humble opinion. I've just come off of 5-6 supremely excellent cruises over the last couple of years that Legend did not come equal to... the entertainment, age of ship, general vibe of the ship, etc just cannot make it at all an equal comparison to the refurbed Navigator, Oasis and Quantum for example. I have a list of my cruises I have rated, and I place this Legend cruise as #15 out of 28.

I really hope you enjoyed my review.... I really appreciate all the kind words and shout outs by all of you who followed along. If you've got any questions feel free to ask and hopefully I'll know the answer.

To my really awesome friendships made on Legend, I really hope I cross paths with you all someday. By all means email me anytime (signature below) and look at my signature once in a while to see if a cruise I'm booked on matches your vacation plans... you never know! :p

Heading to the theatre to gather, I wanted to walk through deck 8 to see if I can find any open J interior cabins while they were preapring them for new cruisers. I was originally booked in this cabin, but was upsold to the balcony... the J is very big actually, about the same size as the D1 aft on this class believe it or not, with full 3 seater couch. The couch is not a bed however, so 3rd person sleeps on the pullman. I would've been very happy here at the price I paid as the aft balcony in my humble opinion was not at all worth the full price it was being sold for in comparison. So those of you seeing really small interior square footages and maybe bad reviews on interiors for this Legend, have a look at the J interiors if the price is right.

+1 recommendation for the J cabin - had it for 16 days on the TA last year.

What a wonderful photo review!!

Legend of the Seas will be calling Brisbane home from December 2015 to April 2016, so we might as well book for our cruise next year! :D

I'm gonna bookmark this to refer to. Thanks for posting!

Hoopster95,

Thank you for the excellent review. We are travelling on Legend from Sydney to Singapore next month, and are looking forward to it.

From your review, we may find the overall experience a bit mixed; this is only our second cruise, having been on Liberty last year. But I am planning to deal with that by setting my expectations a little lower than we enjoyed last year - so hope I will be pleasantly surprised by the experience on Legend.

Thank you Hoopster95!

Your review was excellent and great photos. We are travelling on Legend soon for a long cruise which we are really looking forward to. Here is a photo of Legend I took in June leaving our home port of Brisbane, Australia bound for Asia. :)
