How does one get to Eze? We will be docked in Villefranch and hope to take the train. Know there was another post on this, but can't find it.

PS-There are four of us and if it is cheaper and more convenient we can Taxi.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Getting there is easy. Getting to the top may not be, as it is a steep climb. Here's a link to some information.

With four of you I would take a taxi as it would be quicker, easier and you wouldn't be wasting so much time and the cost would not be exhorbitant.

I totally agree with Aussiegal. If you have 4, a taxi will be worth the few extra dollars. The problem with a train is that you must walk a couple of blocks from the pier, go up the steps to the station, take the train to Eze sur Mer, and than wait for the bus or get a taxi to take you up to Eze (I do not recommend walking up to the town). A taxi will get you from the pier to Eze in about 10 min, while others would still be waiting for a train. One thing! I would not go to early in the morning. Not much is open before 9:30 or 10.

Thanks, Hank. You have such great information to share. Previous posts had mentioned that the taxis don't want short rides--do you think they will be more readily available if we wait to go later (we are not early risers so that works for us & we will be in port late). Also, will a shop or cafe call us a taxi once in Eze or are taxis easily available?

When we were in Honfleur last year we asked the Taxi driver if he would mind returning to pick us up a few hours later. He was happy to do so and we didn't pay him until he drove us back to the ship.

I would try this with your taxi driver in Eze. Two fares are better than one!

He may wait for you there, as there is large parking area, or may go away and do some other fares and return. It is worth a try.

Getting a taxi for a relatively short drive can be a problem,,, but it can usually be overcome. Be a bit assertive (but polite) with the drivers and tell them your destination. These drivers generally know each other, and if they don't want your business they will often point you to a driver that will do the trip. For Eze, is all else fails, just walk to the train station and take the train to Eze sur Mer. From there, you can get the bus up to Eze. If the bus schedule is not good for you, than you can call for a local taxi (there is a cafe across the street from the small train station).

Please note that there is a time mid-day when the bus does not run from Eze-Sur-Mer to Eze. We ran into this "problem" when we were there. Since it would be 2 hours before the next bus, we took a taxi. They were happy to take us up the hill for about 25 Euros. We shared with another couple who happened to come along. The taxi trip from the Eze-Sur-Mer station was about 10 minutes. At the time (last summer) walking up the hill was forbidden due to fire danger. Once there, we were happy to have been talked out of the extremely steep walk.

There is a very helpful tourist office in a kiosk on the sidewalk outside the Eze-Sur-Mer train station.

Once on board your ship, ask your shore excursion desk for the train and shuttle bus time tables. Then you can plan a little better.
