Buying a case of water near Civitavecchia

There are several stores outside the port- do an internet search for Carrefour, on a search on this board. A common European chain, about 5 blocks from the "fort" entrance.

The water on board the ship is as pure, if not more pure than bottled water, tastes great, is FREE, and doesn't come with a plastic waste problem. No reason to bring on board more than one refillable bottle per person.

The Carrefour in Civitavecchia is actually one of the smaller Carrefour Express places. We have often stopped at that store to pick up a bottle of wine or some other item we need. But, it is quite a hike from the port (over 6 blocks) and one would really have to want their bottled water to lug it that far :). When we want water on a cruise ship we simply hold our glass under the tap. But there is also water for sale on every ship as they cruise lines are smart enough to profit from the water craze. Per ounce, water costs more then some wine! my goodness.

If you are staying in Rome before or after the cruise, the tap water in Rome is amongst the best and sweetest in the world. You can also fill up your water bottles at public water fountains around the city. There is no need to buy water in Rome.:)
