bnorris10 Posted April 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2015 So my friend is trying to find out on 3 day carnival cruise if it is really necessary to dress up for the formal night She would prefer to just wear some shorts (not booty or jean shorts) and possibly a nice blouse - She just really not wanting to wear pants during this cruise
Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted April 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2015 No, wear what you want but be presentable...pants nice shirt for men, pants nice blouse for woman is fine, no need to get dressed up make the cruise what you want it to be. bnorris10 Posted April 29, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted April 29, 2015 So then a nice pair of khaki shorts and a button up shirt/blouse would be out of the question? I guess my question is do we really have to wear pants
Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted April 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Well.....yeah I would guess but I haven't been on a 3 night cruise in ages so maybe somebody else can answer it for you.
SadieN Posted April 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) Done too many 3 day cruises out of Los Angeles. For CE night shorts are not on the dress code in the MDR. Depends on the staff whether you'll be turned away or let in. Many skirts are easy to wear and take up no more room than a pair of shorts. How about a nicer sun dress? bnorris10 Posted April 29, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Well I definantly won't be putting on a skirt I guess I will just suck it up and wear pants for a hour sucks i have to pack extra clothes and shoes for this little 3 day cruise
SadieN Posted April 29, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) No need to bring extra shoes. I bring two pair-- sandals and ballet flats. Go with everything ;) For Formal night Mom wears her black Columbia neoprene slides with black socks under black pants. Which ship? An alternative would be the buffet or speciality restaurant, if available. Edited April 29, 2015 by SadieN
bnorris10 Posted April 29, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted April 29, 2015 I was planning on only bringing my black flip flops not sure they would appreciate me wearing flip flops with my "dress" attire and I think I would feel weird not wearing my dress shoes

Sweet Dutch Girl Posted April 29, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 29, 2015 No, wear shorts and eat at the buffet 3 day cruises are very casual...and it will probably work for your friend to wear walking shorts into the MDR even on "elegant" night as it is very unusual for the staff to act as the "dress" police (much to the chagrin of some long-time cruisers who want elegant night to be a reflection of their desires). Just walk in with the crowd and once you are seated no one will say a word (experience has taught me that). Besides...I would rather see someone in modest shorts than the mini skirts some people refer to as appropriate attire.

No one has ever stopped me.
Lurkyloo Posted April 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2015 We were on a 4 day cruise and I didn't want to fuss either - I brought along a nice pair of black capris, high heeled black sandals and a nice top and didn't feel out of place at all. On the longer cruises I do dress up, but the short cruises are a bit less formal. But would never feel comfortable in shorts in the dining room and definitely not on a designated formal night. Have fun!

jnwinos Posted April 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 29, 2015 You can wear nice shorts and a blouse. I have seen everything from nice shorts to cocktail gowns. Even on a short cruise, I like to dress up but not everyone does. Like the other person said walk in with a crowd, no one will notice
