Stitchman Posted May 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2015 I heard an advert on the radio about Thompson getting a new ship and it mentioned a rock climbing wall and mini golf. Then I read that they're purchasing splendour to replace island escape. I haven't been on splendour, but feel I might have to book a Thompson cruise to have a go on her. What a magnificent vessel !! I heard the advert too on radio how they described their new Thomson Discovery and my first thought immediately was that sounded like Royal Caribbean. Googled the Thomson Discovery although limited info, it is Splendour becoming Thomson Discovery in 2016. Walked past a Thomson travel agent on the high street and they had a poster with Splendour in Thomson's colour. Jackamama Posted May 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 2, 2015 Splendour is a lovely ship. We have sailed on her twice and loved it. Might go back at some point to try it with Thomsons :) .

Rare kernow Posted May 5, 2015 #11 Share Posted May 5, 2015 Just back from the Splendour TA, it was a fab cruise and staff and passengers were sorry that the ship is being sold. People from Thomson actually got onboard in Tenerife to start planning for the refit, DH had a long chat with one of the guys about their plans, the casino will be much smaller and they are planning to change the atrium area and Schooner bar. Peter the hotel director told us Thomson had looked at several of the Vision class ships and choose to take Splendour as it was the best one for them. I guess that means some more will be going in a the next couple of years. We will definitely consider trying it under the Thomson brand. SausPud Posted May 15, 2015 #13 Share Posted May 15, 2015 Looked at the Discovery itineraries for Summer 2016 and didn't fancy the stops they have, but loved what Celebration is doing so booked a back to back cruise from Dubrovnik to Malta and Sicily and then second week upto Venice and Croatia. Out of all the 12 stops on 14 days, we haven't visited any before. That for me is what Cruising is all about, the places you visit first, then cruise company, then ship. Also the flight is on the new Dreamliner aeroplane, bonus. Have done Thomson in the early days and looking forward to going back, especially as Celebration is adult only. Who's coming? TheGinBoy Posted May 15, 2015 #14 Share Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) What's also interesting was that yesterday TUI (parent company of Thomson and FirstChoice) announced that they are dropping the Thomson and FirstChoice brands - and that everything will from now on be branded TUI. So I guess it'll be the TUI Discovery? Edited May 15, 2015 by TheGinBoy
