Rommate may not go. Will I be penalized?

Recommended Posts

I understand...OP said she/cousin/travel partner has some financial issues and pride and maybe feels just not ok to go no matter what...I do not think she is truly dumping op..op is just trying to get all options for cousin and herself...it is not a waste to me..sad but not a waste if cousin feels better staying and dealing..life happens and things are personal here too. Just so OP does not have to pay any fine for it and cousin gets back what she can or does not spend any more if possible..a tricky sort it out decision. Of course all this is my humble opinion...

I wish she could let go of work or looking for work or money matters and let op help a little but we do not know what is truly best for her....

I think these ports are so easy to get off look around and entertain yourself and get back on and sit in the less crowded Serenity area though....good thoughts to all in these dilemmas which just happen, but I never think it is a waste to stop further cash drain if that is truly the best for one's ego these days..it is rough out there financially these days for so many....S.

Welp, I couldn't find anyone to take my cousins place, BUT.......she has decided to go. So I am glad I couldn't find anyone else to go, because I really wanted her to go. She needs the getaway, and she will now be hooked on cruising!!!! 9 days Woohoo!!

Alls well that ends well. Now, tell her to keep the S&S card in her pocket and not be taken in by the drinks of the day, the photos, the casino, the shops, gold by the inch, etc. If you're going to Santa Catalina, take a walk up to the Wrigley Monument instead of renting a cart to save money. It's a nice walk and plenty to see along the way. Have fun!

I may run into this issue in a couple of months - I booked solo with a great pack & play rate for July. My sister, who also got the great rate, booked for my daughter & her in another cabin. Now, my sister may not be able to go due to an issue at work.

So, if this happens, how does my daughter check in? Does she just say that she doesn't know if her aunt is going to make it? The rate was so low that my sister isn't concerned with getting any $$ back, but I'm just concerned that this may cause a problem for my daughter when she checks in.

Also, since the Pack & Play rate was for my sister, and she is a "no show," will they make my daughter pay more when she checks in?

Any help would be appreciated. Been on many cruises, but never had this issue before.

I would call Carnival asap, I was told with pack and play the person who get the offer must be there for the other person to be able to go as well. Did she take the insurance, I heard there was a large penalty if you don't go.

It doesn't make any sense for her to not go at this point! If she doesn't go she gets nothing back or very very little. She would be throwing away a lot of money when she says she can't afford it.

Here is what you should do: Tell her it is too late for her to cancel of switch names on the booking. Tell her if she won't accept your offer to pay to at least let you pay for her spending on board. That way she isn't coming out any more than what she already paid and you shouldn't have to spend as much as paying for her ticket.

Explain that if she cancels that you pay her ticket anyway AND she doesn't get her money back. Why would she do that to you?

Edit: oops, I see she is going now! Should have finished the entire thread before posting. Glad it worked out!

I am glad we don't have to think about all the coulda shoulda woulda's anymore. Trust me, I was thinking about them all the time. But, now we can go and have a blast!! And I can get through the two graduations, the graduation party, without the extra worry. Excited!!!

I booked early saver and was paid in full and my father in law died about a month after we paid in full. I called and they were able to swap someone else in his place for 100.00 penalty. They waived it after a couple of weeks when I sent the death certificate. So name changed can be made. Also, in the event she would not go, don't tell carnival that. Just show up for your cruise and they won't ask about her. Just check in by yourself and you won't be penalized for the single person rate. If you were to call and pull her off, you would have owed the extra money. A lot of people check in by themselves and meet up with their party later, we always travel with family and we all go through different lines to get checked in, they never ask, where is so and so?
