I can totally appreciate though. I've been on over 20 Carnival cruises and have only been to one past guest party where I left within 5 minutes after not being able to get waited on, and have never used the free drink coupon since it is worthless to me with Cheers.

 

Its all much ado about nothing if you ask me. ;-)

I can see a sharp rise in craigslist ads offering used platinum cards to flash at the door for entrance. Would laugh at the headline one year from now, "Too many people still attending the Carnival loyalty party."

If you check your VIFP specials, Carnival sometimes offers Gold members a one time Platinum upgrade/special offer when booking. You would only be Platinum on that one cruise, and receive all the associated benefits. I usually cruise in the summer, and book in Jan/Feb., and have seen it offered in the past two years. I booked this summers cruise in October, and it wasn't offered then, or when I checked my specials since.
