Discount for public safety

RCI has a spot to put if you are EMS, fire or police for a "discount". I have tried to book different cruises with this discount and I never see the price go down. Do they only offer it on select cruises ?

Yes. DH is retired military and we've only actually had the discount twice. You have to keep checking because sometimes it's added for a while. It's never been an across the board discount.

Yes, only available on select cruises. The discounts will just pop up, so keep watching. And the discounts come and go!

Thanks, probably when we can not cruise is when they are offered. My wife is a teacher and we still have one in high school so we can only cruise during a short period in the summer.

We have the same time constraints on when we can cruise. Police officer, military, teachers, students and retired, so we have a few short weeks in the summer, which is high season. We've never been able to take advantage of the the discount either. We did spring break once, but we still preferred summer. It was a mad rush to get things ready to go, mad rush straight back into the jobs and classes, so we just generally prefer to go in the summer, realizing that we don't get the best prices. Just one year, we would like to do Christmas on a cruise ship. Again, not the best prices...lol.

Sometimes the "discount" comes in the form of an on board credit (OBC). This was the case recently when friends of ours (retired military) booked.

Yes, we have always wanted to take a cruise during the week of Thanksgiving as the school is out all that week. But it is also the same week as the EMS convention in Texas and my service always sends people to the convention and no one is allowed to take time off that week.
