5 in OK Posted May 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2015 I have a question.....we have purchased the Dzibilchaltun Ruins tour for our stop in Progreso on the Carnival Triumph. We read that you cannot take your backpack into the ruins and you have to check it upon entry. Here's my question....can we keep a fanny pack for our bottles of water (ours is large enough to hold a couple of bottles of water) or will they let us keep it? Thanks in advance for your help! Purvis1231 Posted May 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2015 We did this tour in 2012, we followed the rules and left our stuff on the bus but most others did not. Many people carried backpacks, beach bags, video camera, etc. I did not see anyone question them about it.
maldenmusic Posted May 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2015 Been to Dzib twice-first time we followed the rules and the 2nd time we carried small back packs with us with water, camera, etc and no one said a word.

dhrnrcpa Posted May 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2015 We were there a few weeks ago, and they made those with backpacks store them. I carried a camera bag- no problem. My bet is something the size of a fanny pack would probably be allowed.
WomanWillSail Posted June 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2015 And you can take in water: it would be crazy to deny people water in this heat.
LSUcajunmom Posted September 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Has anyone ever taken a taxi from port and gone to Dzibilchaltun just swim in cenote? Curious about cost of taxi ride. Thanks in advance.
maldenmusic Posted September 6, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Has anyone ever taken a taxi from port and gone to Dzibilchaltun just swim in cenote? Curious about cost of taxi ride. Thanks in advance. You will have to pay an entrance fee to get into the ruins which has always been part of the price we paid for the tour. It would be quite a long taxi ride as well. I know there are other denotes in the area but not sure if they are closer.
LSUcajunmom Posted September 7, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Yes, I knew we would have to pay entrance fee. Just trying to figure out cost of taxi.
MyronH Posted September 14, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 14, 2015 It's odd they wouldn't allow any backpacks. If this is true now, I will scratch this excursion off my list. I'm not leaving a backpack with expensive cameras and other stuff in it on the bus. Plus I carry water and other stuff in it. These places get hot. I had no idea... we were planning on coming back for our cruise next month and we brought a small bag with a change of clothes so we could swim in the cenote. It was very hot and the cenote was refreshing and wonderful. The kids are thrilled to be going back. They will have no problem with you bringing in water. Do the guided tour, even the short one (we chose the short one), it's full of information!
sublarry Posted October 4, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2015 I have taken a back pack in both times I was there. We went in May last year and had no issues.
grantbob Posted December 10, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 10, 2015 You have to "check" large back packs as you enter. They give you a tag and they are kept in a secure place. They did allow a small drawstring type bag that we used for water and towels.
mulewagon Posted December 19, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Did you tour the ruins first, then change into your swimsuit for the cenote? Or does the tour go straight from the ruins to the cenote? Edited December 19, 2015 by mulewagon
grantbob Posted December 20, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 20, 2015 A free the guided ruins portion they give you time to do what you want. You can walk back to the entrance restrooms and change. To have more time swimming we wore our bathing suits under shorts and a t shirt then afterwards changed into dry clothes on the way out.

5 in OK Posted February 14, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted February 14, 2016 Yes - there were many backpacks allowed through. We took a small drawstring type with no problem. There were two guides on our Carnival excursion - they were both great but one moved a little faster so we jumped into his group. The Cenote was the last part of the tour. We are going back next month - taking my husband this time. The Cenote was just amazing. Really enjoyed this excursion.
Tennessee Rose Posted May 8, 2016 #18 Share Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) We have decided to go to Dzibilchaltun ruins while at Progreso, instead of taking the very long ride to Uxmal. So, I've been scouring all the pics I can find. Now, I'm scared! That walk back to the main temple looks like at least 1/2 mile. For those that have difficulty walking, how hard a time did you have walking in this area? And getting back to the temple? I'm speaking as someone with severe arthritis and daily pain meds for it. Also, are the large lizards/iguanas common at these ruins? I've not seen any photos of them there. One more question for anyone who has been to these ruins this year----what is the current entry fee and cost of a personal guide (supposedly at the site) in US dollars. Thanks for your help! :) Edited May 8, 2016 by Tennessee Rose mispelled word
Purvis1231 Posted May 8, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 8, 2016 There area is mostly flat and not hard walking. There are only a few benches. I cannot tell you about the fees since we when on an Autoprogreso tour. I hope you will enjoy it.
LSUcajunmom Posted May 18, 2016 #20 Share Posted May 18, 2016 The walk isn't bad, but the heat is during this time of year.
