swin26 Posted May 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2015 We will be boarding around noon for a 5 pm departure. We would like to check in and drop off our luggage ( including carry ons) and then leave the ship to have lunch with our daughter who will be in New York that day. Is it a problem to do so and would we need to wait in the check in line to get back on the ship or is there a separate line for those already checked in. Thanks
sail7seas Posted May 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2015 No problem but be sure to be back aboard in time for Life Boat Drilll (or whatever they call it these days.)
take us away Posted May 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2015 You should be able to just re-board but there will be the line as there is only 1 line for boarding the ship. You can skip the photos, etc on your way to the ship. You may be able to have her on the ship for lunch but you will have to get HAL to agree well in advance as guests are not as common as in the past. Sirdar Posted May 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2015 I would definitely check with the ship before going ashore.

Thanks There is always a line for in-transit persons. No you will not have to wait in the check in line.
swin26 Posted May 21, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted May 21, 2015 thanks for the responses. I mentioned possibly eating on board to my daughter. She has a fear of rogue waves and refuses to go on a cruise (though she did travel overnight by ship from Italy to Greece a few years ago). She thought about eating on a docked ship for a few minutes and then said she knew a number of great places to go for lunch on land in New York. I just laughed and said we would meet her at the restaurant of her choice.
