Reservations for MDR necessary?

Is it necessary to make dinner reservations for the MDR? We are a party of 7, would it be hard to get a table together if we just did freestyle dining?

Make sure that all the reservations are linked . This can help to get a table for 7. Ask for an 8 place table. They might try and give you a 6 place and add a 7th place.

Don't know what ship you are on. Our experience with a group of 10 was no trouble. We had no reservations

Hope this helps.

P.S. We were on Breakaway

We had a large group on the Star and never had to make reservations to get seated in the MDR. We did have to wait about 10 - 15 minutes on two occasions but that was it. The Star had aft MDR had several places where they could sit a larger party.

On the Jewel class or Dawn class ships it seemed there were many empty larger tables in the aft MDR which they were asking smaller parties to share, so that might be the first dining room to try.

On our TA last fall with the Star, we joined others from CC and had a party of 8 each night. We started making reservations but found it unnecessary. As mentioned before, they have larger tables that often remain empty. Even if there was a long line at the MDR, one of our party would go forward and mention we had a party of 8 and were almost always seated immediately. Most of the people in line are waiting for tables for 2-4.

Thank you for the replies. Sounds like we won't have any trouble getting a table. I guess getting a table of 8 will make it more roomier for everyone.

We will be cruising on the Sky.
