DimSum Posted May 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2015 Is it necessary to make dinner reservations for the MDR? We are a party of 7, would it be hard to get a table together if we just did freestyle dining?

Ask for an 8 place table. They might try and give you a 6 place and add a 7th place.

We had no reservations Hope this helps. P.S. We were on Breakaway Edited May 24, 2015 by meatball_nyc
fshagan Posted May 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2015 We had a large group on the Star and never had to make reservations to get seated in the MDR. We did have to wait about 10 - 15 minutes on two occasions but that was it. The Star had aft MDR had several places where they could sit a larger party. marelind Posted May 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2015 On the Jewel class or Dawn class ships it seemed there were many empty larger tables in the aft MDR which they were asking smaller parties to share, so that might be the first dining room to try. Raleigh Traveler Posted May 24, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2015 On our TA last fall with the Star, we joined others from CC and had a party of 8 each night. We started making reservations but found it unnecessary. As mentioned before, they have larger tables that often remain empty. Even if there was a long line at the MDR, one of our party would go forward and mention we had a party of 8 and were almost always seated immediately. Most of the people in line are waiting for tables for 2-4.
DimSum Posted May 25, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted May 25, 2015 Thank you for the replies. Sounds like we won't have any trouble getting a table. I guess getting a table of 8 will make it more roomier for everyone. We will be cruising on the Sky.
