Jewel ~ S. Caribbean and Panama Canal ~ April 25th & May 2nd ~ My Diary

Recommended Posts

We were certainly very lucky with our tendering for the day compared to others!

Nice sights in the marina!!

It was crazy busy on shore!! We didn't know exactly what we were going to do. We thought we would head over to the beach and see what that was like. We were directed to the land taxis. The water taxis weren't running at that time because of the swells.

We grab a taxi and head over to Medano Beach. That's the beach that you can see from the ship. It's a nice enough beach but not up to my Caribbean standards. We went into the first beach bar that we see.....which was a mistake. There's almost always a learning experience the first time you go to a port! We definitely were schooled!!

The name of the place we went to was Billygan's. It is right next door to the Office' date=' where a lot of people like to go for lunch.....but I was not impressed with that place either.......too crowded! No place to sit on the beach. This is Billygan's:

cool Yacht -- did you see the name. It looks like C2 -- the Ronald Perelman (Revlon) yacht that we have seen in St. Maarten.

All of a sudden I feel the need to go look at my SXM and ST photos . I vaguely remember the white chopper...

Jane, looks like our cruise is almost over. :(

Well......if you go on down the beach to Tabasco's......I think it is much nicer there. I checked with a few resorts there before we went to see if they had day passes and came up empty on that. I think I heard that the Puebla Bonita might let you sit at there property. I would give them a call. Any of those places along the beach have great Mexican food. There is a restaurant in town called Cabo Wabo. I heard someone say that they went there and had a good lunch. It was really hard to find any research on this!! But definitely do the boat ride!!!

Like you, we're really glad we did the boat ride out to the arch. We've been to Cabo several times, but this was the first time we did this adventure (about an hour). I would do it again. We've been to Cabo Wabo before. It's a few blocks inland from the harbor, so no ocean view. It's owned by Sammy Hager (lead singer of Van Halen). I thought it was ok. We liked Cabo Cantina better - also inland and quieter than Cabo Wabo. Beers, guacamole, and/or a salsa platter plus free wifi. Almost all of the street vendors were children.

We were told on our excursion that that yacht had been used in a couple of movies. It was in Cabo in the middle of April also.

On to dinner around 8. We walked right in. Not many people there tonight. It's not very often that we have a view out the window when we go to dinner! In this picture you can kind of see how close we were to the other tables. I wish they could spread things out a bit more. It was really uncomfortable.

DSC08221_zpsaawlwzhg.jpg

It was Italian night. I got lasagna. I ate too much!!!

DSC08222_zpsnnatsnoj.jpg

Hit the casino after dinner. John lost.....but I got lucky again and hit $200 on the Wheel......just before I would have lost everything.

I sort of peeked my head into the Las Vegas Tenor show.....but it didn't interest me......so on to the cabin we go.

When we got back to the cabin......someone called to see if the new TV was working OK! What? We didn't even notice that our TV had been replaced.....with a much bigger model!! They said something was wrong with the other one, but we didn't notice anything nor did we complain. Oh well......

We turned our clocks back one hour and went to bed.

Thursday ~ May 14, 2915 ~ At Sea

More R&R today.

DSC08224_zpschh1bfpp.jpg

Got to breakfast right at 8 o'clock this morning and sat with Johnny and Nell. Service was slow, but we survived.

We went back to the CL after breakfast and it was actually pretty quiet in there....enough that we were able to read. We finished our reading in the cabin this morning.

Last chance to have lunch in Seaview, so we took advantage of that. Had the best hot dog and onion rings today.....just delicious!

Then headed down to the WJ for more frozen yogurt.

Mmmmmmm.......so good!!

After lunch we went to get our pictures for this cruise.

There was a farewell meeting of our roll call in the Schooner Bar this afternoon. A good many of our group came to say good-bye. Really enjoyed sailing with these folks. It was such a good group and we had so many fun things planned.

We totally forgot to go to the farewell gathering in the Schooner Bar. I guess we were relaxing a little TOO much, lol!

We had gotten a good tip from Karen & Bob about how good the hot dogs were in the Seaview Cafe, and they were right -- Nathan's hot dogs are used. :)

The CL was totally empty tonight. It was formal night. A few more joined us before the dinner hour. We just made a large circle of chairs! Very few come here at the later times, so it's nice. Most people go upstairs.

Dinner in My Time. We both ordered the Prime Rib. It was just OK. I had the Grand Marnier Souffle for dessert and it was excellent.

We decided not to push our luck in the casino tonight. We went to the shops instead to spend a little more of our OBC. We got a bottle of scotch and a nice bracelet.

Then on to the cabin after that. There was a beautiful swan there tonight.

We missed the farewell gathering as I was under the weather with bronchitis the last few days and had to rest and recuperate. Those hot dogs (and onion rings, too!) were so good. Glad we're on the Jewel again in September!

I didn't realize you had been ill. I hope you are feeling better by now! Thanks for the tip about the hot dogs -- see you in the Seaview. :D

Friday ~ May 15, 2015 ~ Ensenada

Pretty crummy looking weather as we sail into Ensenada on this last day of the cruise.

Really lousy weather!!

We didn't have any plans for today, but we would get off the ship. We have never been here before. A Carnival ship was also in port.

It was really hard to get motivated to go out!!

Here go the tours!! Mooooo!! So glad we weren't doing this today.

There was a nice little terminal here. We walked through there and caught a shuttle to town. Very easy.

DSC08267_zps7bnwbreb.jpg

We had no idea where we would go when we got to town, but I spied a Starbucks around the corner when we got there. Thought it would be nice to get a little Wi-Fi. We walked in and lo and behold....there was Alice and Bernadette! We spent about an hour in there drinking coffee and using the Wi-Fi which was just OK. Nothing else to do. It was pouring down rain!

DSC08271_zpsl1jhacju.jpg

That's about it for Ensenada. We headed back to the ship after a while and got our lunch there. Not a very exciting day. Unfortunately, we had packing to do!!

We had lunch in the WJ, then the packing began. That was how we spent most of our afternoon!

We had a beautiful sight as we were getting ready to leave. Very appropriate for the end of our trip!

Gosh.....I loved those giraffes!!

DSC_0645_zpszgxf6dte.jpg

There were lots more animals to see' date=' though.

About halfway through the tour, we stopped at another area of the park and walked around where we saw pumas, jaguars, and peacocks. Quite nice.
