Booking a shore excursion with gift card?

Yes, I did it on my last cruise --- one caveat: be absolutely certain you won't change your mind about an excursion purchased with gift card....if you change your mind, you'll be subjected to 9 fiery rings of customer service hell to get your money back.

I bought an excursion with a gift card and then ended up cancelling it. Wasn't a problem. Received a Carnival gift card in the amount of the refund via overnight mail a few days later.

I don't know what the previous poster means.

If you cancel your excursion, your money is refunded the same way you paid it. I've cancelled a few excursions using gift cards and got a gift card refunded back. My only issue was one time when it took weeks to get the card back in the mail.

Perhaps Carnival's system has improved in the past year, and I certainly am glad that some of you had different experiences than I did. When I cancelled, it took almost 4 months of back-and-forth between the excursion team (it was cancelled, talk to the gift card people) and the gift card group (we have no record, and your balance is zero, so tough luck). In the end, a truly wonderful guest services supervisor straightened it all out, and I didn't get my refund via gift card until a couple of weeks before sailing.

All that is to say, YMMV....
