Baltic Aviation and Maritime Museums

Recommended Posts

For an upcoming Baltic cruise I'd like to get information on aviation and maritime museums that are accessible to Copenhagen, Warnemunde Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Kiel. Which ones are worth visiting and which ones aren't. Which ones are easily accessible from the cruise port and which ones aren't. How to get to them. The only definite one is the Vasa in Stockholm. We are considering

The Finnish Aviation Museum Vantaa

The Aeroseum in Gothenburg

The Laboe Denkmal.

What others?

Thanks,

-John

The Danish maritime museum in Helsingør some 45 minutes with train north of Copenhagen.

Then you can combine it with a visit to Louisiana arts museum in Humlebæk or Hamlets castle Kronborg also in Helsingør.

I can also recommend the ferry trip to nearby Helsingborg.

25 minutes west of Copenhagen in Roskilde there is the Viking ship museum where some well preserved Viking ships found at the bottom of Roskilde Fjord is on display.

Here you also can try to sail in a replica of a Viking ship.

For Stockholm, the area around Vasa is called Galärvarvet and it is an old shipyard area.

Except for Vasa there is also Båthall 2. http://www.sjohistoriska.se/en/Visit-the-Maritime-Museum/Visit1/Museum-ships--boats-at-Galarvarvet/Bathall-2/

A bit further away at Djurgårdsbrunnsviken, there is the Sea historic museum.

If you have time I would also suggest to stroll around Skeppsholmen for a while.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeppsholmen

Get there with the Djugården ferry from Allmänna gränd at Djurgården.

For Gothenburg you have two-three maritime museums:

Martiman, Sjöfartsmuseet and the Swedish East Indian Company.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maritiman

http://goteborg.se/wps/portal/sjofartsm/english

http://www.soic.se/en/visit-us/

However for SOIC, the east indianmen will likely be away on tours so it probably won't be much to see at her berth.

For Aeroseum see instructions on their website: http://www.aeroseum.se/english/contacts.html but it depends on which ship you are on and where it docks.

This from Nordstan at downtown Göteborg: http://reseplanerare.vasttrafik.se/bin/query.exe/en?ld=fe1&L=vs_vasttrafik&seqnr=1&ident=1g.01001168.1433714610&HWAI=CONNECTION$C0-0!id=C0-0!HwaiConId=C0-0!HwaiDetailStatus=details!;~CONNECTION$C0-0!HwaiMoreDetailStatus=UNDEFINED!HwaiMapStatus=UNDEFINED!HwaiMapNumber=UNDEFINED!HwaiMapSlider=UNDEFINED!;&HWAI=JS!ajax=yes!&
