shelnj18 Posted June 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2015 We will be on the Noordam 8/15 and are currently looking into ship excursions. One that is of interest is the Glacier Pt Wilderness Safari. I was wondering if anyone has been on that excursion and what their thoughts are about it. Thanks in advance. Shelly
travgurl Posted June 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2015 We are going on the Holland Oosterdam in July. I was considering on booking that particular excursion. It looked really good, but we are doing a whale watch in Juneau, we will see Glacier Bay National Park for a whole day, so I wanted to see as much as possible of the land in Alaska also. So after lots of research and reading reviews I chose for our party of 10 http://www.tntours98.com/, the 7 hour tour. Check it out, hope this helps! shelnj18 Posted June 17, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted June 17, 2015 Thanks for the info. Because we are disembarking in Skagway and going to Whitehorse, Yukon, we eliminated any tours involving White Pass since we will taking that the next day to get to Whitehorse. If we weren't doing that, the tour you will be on sounds great. My husband and I decided that we would do the Wilderness Safari in the afternoon and the Ghosts and Goodtime Girls walking tour in the morning. It should be a full day and we will both probably fall into bed that night! Enjoy your trip and thanks again. Shelly

I have 2 favorite exursions both outside of the cruise lines. 2 weeks ago we did Dyea Dave to Emerald lake in the Yukon. It was beautiful and I would highly recommend. We also did a hike and float http://skagwayfloat.com/tours/chilkoot-trail-hike-and-float/. I would also highly recommmend that trip for a great day in Alaska! jgmc Posted June 17, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2015 We did this excursion several years ago and already have it booked when we go back in July. This was one of the best we have ever done. We also have enjoyed a car rental and drive to Emerald Lake.

Thinkng of doing this same tour in June would appreciate what you liked about the trip and if there were any downsides to booking a private tour . where you ever in jeopardy of missing the ship .? Timeliness of pick up , condition of the vehicle and the knowledge of the tour guide any information would be appreciated thank you .
Budget Queen Posted December 22, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 22, 2015 Thinkng of doing this same tour in June would appreciate what you liked about the trip and if there were any downsides to booking a private tour .where you ever in jeopardy of missing the ship .? Timeliness of pick up , condition of the vehicle and the knowledge of the tour guide any information would be appreciated thank you . The above references two different tours. You may want to consider posting your own thread. I highly recommend Dyea Dave, have gone with him numerous times. In my opinion, there is no "downside" with booking independent Alaska tours, who have been in business a while and have a history. :)
dianef Posted December 23, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 23, 2015 Are there any tours in Skagway where you do not need a passport.Would like to ride up the path of the railroad but not go into Canada,as I know you need a passport to get back into U.S.
xlxo Posted December 23, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 23, 2015 Summit return railway trips that exclude the Fraser transfer will NOT require a passport. The Red Onion does not need a passport. Just some green.
dianef Posted December 23, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 23, 2015 Would like to take a bus trip, not a train trip.Any suggestions on that?
Budget Queen Posted December 23, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 23, 2015 Would like to take a bus trip, not a train trip.Any suggestions on that? Nope, no "bus" tours on the Klondike Highway. Only possibility- is mentioned above, the Round trip White Pass train ride. There was a Dyea tour mentioned that would not require any. Skagway Streetcar runs an informative Skagway tour.
