Evening whale watch in Juneau

Does anyone have experience with an evening whale watch in Juneau?

Celebrity offers a 5pm excursion. We have on board credit to use and are considering. This option frees up our whole day to do mendenhall glacier, Roberts tram and several other things. We are in port from 9a-9p.

Is this a good time to see whales? Should we do a whale excursion earlier in the day? Our other option is a whale watch in IPS.

Thanks.

Michele

Do you take advantage of whale watching in Ma? :)

The ONLY issue you need to be aware of with whale watches, is TIME. Some of the evening tours are shorter, some by up to an hour. Simple math- longer you are out, the more you see.

It makes NO difference what time during daylight, you are out. The whales are always in the water, and power eating around the clock.

Lol - glad to hear the time of day during daylight hours does not matter. The evening cruise is around 3 1/2 hours.

We tried to go out once on a whale watch and the seas were so rough we needed to turn back. So many things to do in New England.

Is that 3.5 hours in the boat whale watching, or does that time include transport to and from their boat? If that's actual time on the boat, it's not bad. Otherwise, it's not very long on the water depending on where you are boarding the whale watching boat.

We did that excursion through RCCL three years ago and it was wonderful :)

Alaskawdw12 - thank you. We thought it might be a nice way to finish our day in Juneau. Just need to make sure it includes some aspect of dinner as we will be getting back on board quite late.

If it's the same excursion we did (and it probably is...Evening Whale Quest) there is food onboard. I recommend you eat at the beginning of the trip, because it takes about 20 minutes until you get out to where the whales are, and once you get there you won't be interested in eating :). I never got to eat because by the time I thought I should go grab some food there were whales outside! Who can think of food at a time like that ;). It was really an amazing way to end the day. We've booked it again for this summer.
