barbyma Posted September 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2005 We've booked this trip mostly to see the Mayan ruins and such. My husband is concerned, though, that many of the excursions will not be running so close to Christmas (we disembark Christmas Eve). So, to get him past this worry, I'm checking with the experts! So here are some questions I have for anyone who's cruised the Western Caribbean (or another itinerary) during Christmas: 1) Is there any likelihood of limited excursions or shopping during this time? 2) How much does the ship decorate for the holidays? 3) What's the kid ratio like? 4) Anyone have pictures of 1694 on Explorer? 5) I've already posted on excursions, but will welcome any recommendations. Thanks a bunch in advance!

Fritz265 Posted September 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2005 I just took this itinerary and I can't help you with the holiday times but I suspect that if a cruise ship is in town, the shops will be open. May I suggest that you take the ruins tour in Belize (Xanantunich) as there's not much else to do there. It's a seriously long bus ride (2 hours each way) but the ruins were nice and I'm glad I went. Otherwise, there was really no reason to leave the ship in Belize. Shopping is best in Cozumel and Grand Cayman.
Monthend Posted September 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2005 We were on the Majesty of the Seas last year the second week of December. They were just starting to decorate when we boarded and were finished the night before we left. The decorations were beautiful. Every deck had a different tree. On the main deck they had a winter wonderland.
