Skagway hiking

Was thinking of a short, self-guided hike after we get back from our train ride.

Seems from this guide--http://skagway.com/skagwaytrailmap.pdf--that there are some easier options. My main question is: how bad are the mosquitos? I've heard that Alaska's are legendary, and I presume that Skagway does not have an urban spraying program! :)

We did the Lower Dewey trail in June and we didn't notice any mosquitos.

We did Yakutania Point and Smugglers Cove last year. I got one mosquito bite and immediately got the bug spray out. No more bites after that. I didn't really see many, but they were there.

It isn't just mosquitoes, I find the "no see ums" worse sometimes out of Skagway. :) I've run into them unpredictably. I use Deep Woods Off, if needed.

The black flies in Liarsville were my only insect problem. They were taking hunks of my skin.
