Tutu1984 Posted July 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2015 When you travel solo are there usually other solo's on the ship? Just wondering. I'll be cruising for the first time and my first time will be solo. Just wondering how possible will it be that other solo's will be there too. Thanks!:)

You'll also get "adopted" by everyone. :D Check out the roll call for your sailing to see who may have already signed up. There might be other solos lurking to see if they're the only one. Have fun!!!

Thanks!:) Some cruise lines have get togethers, lunches, special activities, etc. just for solo travelers. I can't imagine a cruise without some solos. You may also find some nice people who are not couples but traveling together to hang around with.
Rare Lois R Posted July 18, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2015 (edited) I think there cannot be a 100% answer for yes or no and it also depends on the cruise and cruiseline. I should say it does not matter to me whether there are other solo cruisers on my sailings or not. I cruise for me and as long as folks are friendly, I don't care if I meet other solo cruisers. It is not something that is important to me. I have met many couples over the years who I am friends with up to this day that I have met on various cruises:)....I have met other solo's too, but I don't go looking for them. After reading these boards for many years, It looks like Carnival and NCL do have more solo cruisers....so if that is important to you? Maybe look at those cruiselines. It's just my first time cruising and I'll be doing it solo. I guess I'm a little nervous about it. If there's other solo's I might feel a bit more comfortable. GaryT-UK Posted July 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 19, 2015 I agree with Lois, I've always travelled solo & whilst I have had a great time mixing with other solos some of the best friends I've made have been couples (I've been "adopted" a few times too [emoji3]) I would suggest that you go and do the things you like to do, whether that's enjoying the shows, casino, finding your favourite bar... as you'll usually find like minded people doing the same thing, and you tend to see them in the same places all the time, so that makes it easier to get along. dzcovery Posted July 19, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 19, 2015 I've been traveling solo for quite awhile as my hubby doesn't travel at all. I'm doing my first solo cruise in early October and I'm really looking forward to it. I've already signed up for the Roll Call, the Meet and Mingle, booked my shore excursions, set up a ship below-decks tour and reserved a wine tasting. I'm doing the any time dining and looking forward to meeting new people every night. I'm hoping this is the first of many wonderful solo cruises. Earl Colby Pottinger Posted July 20, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 20, 2015 NCL has cabins just for solos on some of their ships. There is no lack of solos there. On Carnival whether I traveled solo or not I very often on sea-days go exploring by myself, again there has never been a lack of solos on any Carnival cruise I have been on (8 trips so far). Holland America was an Alaskan cruise, we were so busy looking at the scenery I never notices if there were any solos. If you are doing the Alaskan trip don't worry if there are other solo travelers, worry if you have enough batteries and storage cards for your camera. :) It really is that good a trip! LibrarianLizy Posted July 20, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Make sure you sign up for your Roll Call and go to the meet and greet. That's a great way to meet people, solo travelers or not. And check your daily cruise newsletter and look for solo traveler meetups. You may want to book a few ship-sponsored excursions early in the trip so you can meet more fellow cruisers that way. If your cruise line has assigned dinning, be sure to check with the maitre d to make sure you are seated with other solo travelers and/or passengers your age. I think you'll be just fine, but what cruise line are you sailing on and where are you going? Carnival and NCL definitely have more solos, especially with the studio cabins aboard NCL's Epic, Breakaway, Getaway, and Escape. RCCL has a few new solo cabins on their newest ships, I'm sure those are seeing an increase in solo passengers as well. Crystal, Silversea, and Seabourn all have good reputations for solo travelers too.
