MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #27 Share Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) After some shopping in Juneau, we headed back to the ship. It was the 4th of July and the ship had some decorations and some special treats for us. MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #28 Share Posted July 19, 2015 We had dinner and then went to bed as we had another early morning the next day for our tour in Ketchikan. The next morning, we had the Ketchikan City Tour. Our daughter had an upset stomach, so she stayed behind on the ship. This was a bus tour throughout this small town and then we visited Potlatch Park. Antique cars at Potlatch Park This was one of the totem poles that Disney Cruise Lines has their kid's club members decorate. We were told that the kids visit the park, have lunch and decorate a "gill" to be placed on this animal. The inside of one of the clan houses. As many as 50 people would live in one of these homes. MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #29 Share Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) This was the workshop where totem poles were carved. After a short visit at the Potlatch Park gift shop, we headed back to town on our bus. DH and I did more shopping. I should mention here that while in Skagway, you can pick up a savings book for specials at every port. I took this with me wherever we shopped as they had some good deals. We like to buy magnets and coffee mugs wherever we go, and there were other deals to be found. I was surprised that there were just as many jewelry shops in Alaska as there are in the Mexico ports. We bought enough in Ketchikan to get two free shopping bags, which were very handy to bring gifts home in. MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #30 Share Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) After we returned to the ship, we checked on our daughter and she was feeling fine. We went to lunch and then went to the past guest party. It was the first one we attended without the Gold card folks. There were far less people at the party and only 3 Diamond members. They gave us party beads and drinks and food galore. It lasted about 45 minutes. We talked to CD Troy as we were leaving as we had him as our CD on Miracle in February. We told him how much we enjoy his Morning Show on television and asked him if he liked the new format for the past guest party. He told us that he liked it but that he was getting used to the new format. After leaving the party, we realized that it was dinner time. It seems as if all we do is eat here! After dinner, we went to the Art Gallery. my DH is a huge fan of the art and purchases something every cruise. This time, it had to be something that could be shipped, as we were flying home and not driving as we usually do. Of course, he did find some art that he wanted. MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #32 Share Posted July 19, 2015 The final day was a part sea day and Victoria B. C. day. We were scheduled to arrive in Victoria at 7:30pm and stay until 11:30pm. This is one port where I wished we had more time. DH and I tried our luck in the casino one last time, as it was scheduled to close at 2:30pm and not re-open. We both found that the casino was much nicer on the last day. I play penny slots and he plays blackjack, but I won $100 on a quarter machine and he did well at the table. The was a line of machines against the wall near the casino cage with incredibly loud machines with flashing lights. These machines were full the entire cruise until that afternoon, when I was able to play one. I was able to play with $20 for a couple of hours and cashed out with $60. They were penny machines. We had dinner for the last time in the MDR. We had the best group of waiters and they posed for a photo with our daughter after dinner.
MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #33 Share Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) Once we got off the ship in Victoria, we had no plans or an excursion. There are plenty of people there, waiting to take you wherever you want to go. We decided to take a shuttle into town. It was $10 each round trip. They dropped us off downtown and we started our shopping. My DD found a bookstore and she and DH went there. I found a store called Save On Souvenirs and spent a bundle there. I paid with a credit card, but if you pay with cash, you will receive Canadian money as change. Afterwards, we walked over to the channel and took some photos. Artwork on the street. MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #34 Share Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) DH and a friend Hot Dog shop. Loved the sign. We wanted a snack that would be something that we couldn't get at home, and we found it. Poutines. I am not a fan. I did try a beavertail with cinnamon sugar. It was delicious. Tiny tour bus at the port Regatta in port. She's stalking us! A couple of tips; the souvenir shop at port is expensive. Go into town if you want better prices. And ask at the Border Services Agency (at the port) to stamp your passport, if you want it done. They won't do it otherwise. MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #35 Share Posted July 19, 2015 We got back on the ship around 10:30pm and since we had already packed our bags and put them out, we sat on our balcony for a while and then went to bed. The next morning, we were up early as we were supposed to meet up with other platinums to get off the ship. We went to Lido for our last breakfast and then discovered they had already taken the group off, so we waited until group 1 was called and we were off. Debarkation was a breeze. The only real line was on the ship to get off. Customs was fast and we collected our bags. Since our flight didn't leave until 7pm, we had planned to sightsee during the day. We had thought that we would leave our bags at the port and pick them up later, but we decided to take a shuttle to the airport, check the bags and check in, and then take the light rail downtown. It cost $22 each for the shuttle and we were able to book it right there (DD was free with a paying adult.) After checking our bags and carry on bags (an extra $30 at Ken's - you can find him on the same level as baggage claim), we took the light rail downtown. It cost $15 for the 3 of us to have unlimited rides that day. The light rail took us all the way downtown and we walked a few blocks to the Seattle Aquarium, which was our 4th place to visit from the City Pass we bought the previous week. After lunch nearby, we went on a Harbor cruise. DD and our room stewart, Cardozo. Inside a tunnel on the light rail Safeco Field
MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #36 Share Posted July 19, 2015 We went to Pikes Place Market. We were overwhelmed. I wish that I could have bought lots of flowers and fish. There were so many people there, it was difficult to walk around. Flowers One of the fish markets
MissyMac13 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #37 Share Posted July 19, 2015 We took a taxi back to the train station and before we left, there was a Barnes and Noble there. DD loves to read, so we stopped. And it was time for a final cup of refreshment before heading back to the airport. The train got us back to the airport in plenty of time. We discovered once we got there that our flight was delayed, so we found a comfortable place to sit and had some dinner. It wasn't as good as the MDR, but it was fine. It was our first, but hopefully not our last cruise to Alaska. DH had a casino deal and we paid something like $1000 for the three of us. We packed so much in these vacation days that we felt like we needed another one to recover from it!
marshhawk Posted July 21, 2015 #38 Share Posted July 21, 2015 Again, thank you so much for your review, sharing your trip with all of us, and the photos. Although fearful now of what snakes I would find on top of MT Roberts, the information and the squirrel, make me want to go even more. Hike the trail that goes to the cross, and stare out at the mountains, snowcapped in the distance, just beautiful. Thank you, and please post more pictures if you find any more to post.
