Docks in George Town?

It gets brought up from time to time.

Government commissioned an Environmental Impact Statement for the constructions of berthing facilities and associated dredging for a dock project in George Town harbour. The matter is currently under public discussion.

The overall analysis indicates that such a project is not likely to significantly change the proportion of passengers disembarking. There would be significant impacts to the harbour area, destroying several popular dive and snorkel sites.

The public input period has ended. Hundreds submitted their opinion on the current proposal.

By about a 3 to 1 margin the public input was against the current proposal.

From today's Cayman Compass article entitled Majority of public submissions oppose cruise pier construction

Of the 473 public comments received by the Department of Environment, 347 objected to the project, 111 expressed support, and 15 were either neutral or undecided.

Time will tell what this means for the current proposal.
