John Maxtone-Graham 1929-2015

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the delay in posting this.

The famous ocean liner / cruise ship author, historian, and lecturer sadly passed away on July 6th at age 85 from respiratory failure.

I had met him many times both on shore and aboard. He was quite the gentleman, and his wife, Mary, quite a lady (she survives him).

An end of an era. His first book, "The Only Way to Cross" really got me hooked on ship history and cruising.

God speed and calm seas, John!

I had the opportunity to meet John Maxtone-Graham aboard the Norway in 1988 and he autographed a couple of my books. A true gentlemen. It was pleasure to chat with him and his wife.

He will certainly be missed!
