14 months and counting Posted August 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2015 We were in Amsterdam last year and had an amazing meal ( organized by one of the passengers who lives in the area ) at a restaurant near the open air market in Amsterdam. It was wonderful. Next July, we will again be embarking on a cruise in Amsterdam and would love to go back to that restaurant again. We went at lunch time and had many different courses that were a blend of Dutch culinary skills with foods from the Near East. Can anyone help with the name of the restaurant? Thanks. surebeatssailing Posted August 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2015 Never been there but going to Amsrerdam next August. The restaurant may be Kantjil. There has been discussion about this on the next cruise as a place for the roll call to meet for dinner. Check the website...sure sounds like it. Good luck! 14 months and counting Posted August 3, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted August 3, 2015 Thank you so much - the minute I looked at the website I knew that was the restaurant! The meal was delicious and we hope to return again next summer.

Rare John Bull Posted August 3, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Sorry about my spelling for Amsterdam!:o There are no spelling mistakes on Cruise Critic - only typing errors ;) BTW, your post to correct it was just one minute after your original post . You have about 20 minutes to change anything you've posted - click on "Edit", which is alongside "Quote", bottom right of your post. That edit facility, and the icon, disappear after about 20 minutes. Some of us need it more than others. :o JB :) Edited August 3, 2015 by John Bull
LondonTowner Posted August 3, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 3, 2015 What you had was a 'rice table' which consists of lots of different dishes from Indonesia. It is very popular throughout Holland. Ask for recommendations on Tripadvisor.
Ine Posted August 3, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) There are various good indonesian restaurants in The Netherlands and Amsterdam. This site gives them all for Amsterdam, you can also select the area in town where you want to eat. Although reviews are in dutch the numbers tell it all I think. http://www.iens.nl/restaurant/amsterdam/indonesisch In case a whole rijsttafel is too much for you, most of the times you can order Bami (noodles) or rijst Rames. Plate service with also a lot of different items. Be aware some dishes might be spicy. Edited August 3, 2015 by Ine
