stowite Posted August 31, 2015 #176 Share Posted August 31, 2015 Don't drink enough to worry about it to be honest. So I guess we have never regretted not getting it. This is totally us. The last cruise we were on 12 nights. I had maybe 12-15 Cokes and a virgin Pina Colada. My husband had 10-12 cokes and about 5 mixed drinks the entire trip. I think our next cruise will be even less as I am not drinking much pop anymore.
digital_curator Posted August 31, 2015 #177 Share Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) Our first X cruise didn't include a free beverage package. We decided not to buy it since we would be in port for many days. I wanted to and should have. While my husband doesn't drink enough to make even the Classic package worthwhile, I like cocktails, wine with dinner, etc. The people we met on the cruise had it and I was especially jealous if I ordered a drink I didn't love. The "package people" would just order something else. Also, I was always mentally counting how much I had spent while they didn't have to worry. On the last cruises we had the package and upgraded to Premium. I didn't necessarily drink more alcohol but I tried a greater variety of drinks and a lot of non-alcoholic drinks (water, coffees, non-alcoholic cocktails), things that I would have liked on the first one but didn't have because of the cost. I easily get my $ worth. A latte and juice in the morning, 3 big bottles of water, a non-alcoholic drink or two at lunch, a martini before dinner, 2 (maybe 3) glasses of wine with dinner, an espresso and liqueur after dinner, a cocktail at the show...I would definitely buy the Ultimate on my next RCI cruise but I doubt my husband would. jagmanss1 Posted August 31, 2015 #178 Share Posted August 31, 2015 We never buy the drinks package as we are not big drinker and most of our cruise have not many sea days. On our last cruise which had a lot of sea days we did think about buying one but was glad we didn't when we got home as we would of been out of pocket hundreds of dollars. Hundreds of dollars, How long was your cruise?
Rare brillohead Posted August 31, 2015 #179 Share Posted August 31, 2015 Hundreds of dollars, How long was your cruise? The Ultimate package for one person for my upcoming 8-day cruise is $536.00 USD, or $1,072.00 for a couple. Not at all hard to see how someone would be out hundreds of dollars if they purchased a package but didn't really drink much.

My wife doesn't drink anymore except for wine at times, Me I drink top shelf liguor and beer.... No brainer here, But if my wife did drink more wine then the allotted amount she would get the package, So Yes it is hard to see at times.... Depends on who is getting what! I'd rather get the premium package and pay for specialty coffee as I'm not a big coffee drinker, But do like the occasional Latte or cappuccino..... I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding you, or if you're misunderstanding the person you quoted. Jasp 0401 stated they were glad they didn't get a package, as they would have overpaid by hundreds of dollars if they had purchased a drink package. You then questioned, "Hundreds of dollars, How long was your cruise?" Even on a weeklong cruise (which is a typical length for a cruise), the drink package can cost more than $900 for a couple... so I'm failing to understand why you are having a hard time seeing that a drink package purchase would cost a light drinker "hundreds of dollars" more than if they just paid per drink a la carte. Did I miss something here? Edited August 31, 2015 by brillohead

Did I miss something here? I'm basing my assumption on not everyone getting the same drink package, Meaning I drink more then my wife who only drinks a glass or two of wine at dinner and may only have one specialty drink here and there.... I will buy the Premium drink package as it will benefit me, My wife drinks her allotted wine to be brought on for dinner and as a matter of fact will bring the bottle to dinner as they will not charge the corkage fee and keep it for her cold for the following dinners.... I based my assumption on people doing there homework and knowing the cost per drink as of today and not what it was in 2009..... Simple math doesn't lie. Why would anyone buy a drink package if they don't drink is all I'm saying.... Do the math! How can someone not, then complain.... It's not rocket science... If we had purchase the premuim drinks package for 2. so I could have cocktail and wine with dinner. We would of been out of pocket just over $300. But decided not to buy a package as we aren't big drinkers and we were very glad that once again we didn't because even with all those sea days . We would of been out of pocket over $300 if we had gone ahead and bought the packages. Edited August 31, 2015 by Jasp 0401
kike368 Posted August 31, 2015 #185 Share Posted August 31, 2015 According to My incrdible bartender at the sky bar tips from packages are dispersed like you said based on hours worked , cash tips or if you add additional tip on the recipt those are paid directly to them. I would lean more towards the method used by most corporate owned resturants and bars. Which is ALL tips are comingled and then split evenly by all involved based on hours worked that day/shift. So unless your Tipping in cash and there is not a company policy which says keeping tips and not putting into collection is grounds for being let go. How can someone not, then complain.... It's not rocket science... That's my point... they DIDN'T buy the package and they WEREN'T complaining. You really didn't understand any of what was said. They were stating, as many others have, that the drink packages simply aren't a good financial decision for them. Even on cruises with lots of sea days, they just don't drink enough to make it worthwhile financially.

But on our last cruise which had 6 sea days. We did think about buying one but on sitting down and doing the maths we decided still not to buy one. When we got home from our 10 day cruise . We worked out that if we had bought a drinks package .It would of cost us $356 more than what we paid for our drinks on our cruise. So we were very happy that we decided once again not to buy a drinks package I hope everyone understands we didn't buy a package. So we are not complaining about the drinks cost. Just happy we didn't buy one. Because that is what was the orginal question Has anyone regretted NOT buying the drink package? Which my answer is No I haven't regretted Not buying a drinks package Edited September 4, 2015 by Jasp 0401

Do you have to do it certain times, certain places..?? We are diamond too. Which is another reason we don't buy any packages. Diamond member get 3 drink vouchers loaded on to their seapass cards a day. You can use them at most bars around the ship in the evening between 5pm and 8.30pm. Times may vary on some ships but you will get a leter in your cabin about times and on what drinks you can get for free.. The vouchers don't carry over to the next night if you don't use them. On most ships they also have a Diamond lounge that you can get free specialty coffee 24hrs aday. Also drinks in the evening during their cocktail hours.
