You can use (non-refundable) promo OBC to any purchases onboard except for service charges - even auto-gratuities added on bar/speciality restaurant receipts are fine.

But you can't use it to cover daily gratuities.

I'm a new cruiser on NCL, first sailing on the Epic in a few months. My previous cruises have all been on Carnival.

Am I reading this correctly to imply that OBC can't be used to cover the $13.50 daily service charges?

On Carnival ships it's easy enough to go to the casino, load your OBC into a slot machine and do a few pulls, then cash out, effectively liberating the OBC. Is this possible on NCL?

thanks,

Duane-O

We sailed on the NCL Sun in March and as I am a thrifty cruiser (not a drinker, not a shopper on ship, don't use the spa, etc.) I thought I would be able to use as in the past on other ships my OBC on our service charges. We always get a copy of our bill the day before the end of the cruise so that we can see what charges, balance, etc is before the last day. When I saw I still had the $100 credit on there I checked with customer service and they told me that you cannot use it for that. The only thing I did spend money on the ship was in the casino so they told me I could cash in the $100 at the casino. I went up and checked that night and cashed it in at the cashier - it cost me $3 for this transaction but for me it was a ton better than running around and trying to spend my money on something that I didn't really want or need. She gave me the $97 in cash - so it wasn't like I had to gamble it and that was good. Maybe this will help someone else. Thanks - Happy Sailings

Hi all!

According to our TA, obc offered by the TA's are applicable for the service charge. Or does anybody have other experiences?

DJ

I never had a problem with our TA OBC - always applied to daily service charge.

Your TA is correct as long as your TA is actually purchasing the OBC and not just passing on OBC from a NCL promo. It will show on your bill as "Refundable OBC" if it was purchased and "Non-Refundable OBC" if it is a pass thru. Be sure to get a printout of your bill on the ship on either Day 2 or 3 to see how much is listed as Refundable and how much is Non-Refundable. OBC is not posted until after midnight of the first night.

  • 2 weeks later...

Any recent (past month or two) experiences withdrawing cash from the casino and having deducted from non-refundable OBC? I redeemed NCL Mastercard points for OBC in addition to what we're already expecting, and I'm having regrets because now we'll have too much OBC for our plans. We do go to the casino though so that would solve the problem.

I'll probably test withdrawing anyway but was curious about very recent experiences.
