Hi..We are thinking about booking a 15 day R/T to Hawaii on 3/05 on the Island Princess and was wonder what the age group is. I have read a few reviews that most of the guests were mid 60's early 70! Has anyone done this cruise? With 8 days at sea we are going to need lots to do and people to have fun with! We do like the night life. We are in our mid 40's. Would love to hear from everyone!

We'll be doing this in October, 2004. Not really sure about the age group going to Hawaii, but we did a 15 day Panama Canal cruise a couple of years ago. We were 50 at the time and certainly never felt out of place. Yes there were seniors, but there were certainly plenty of folks in their 40s and 50s. We even had newlyweds in their 20s at our dinner table most nights.

The longer the cruise, the older the crowd. Period. Exception: major holidays. We are doing the 15 day Island X-mas and New Years. So far from the posts looks like a mixed bag, age-wise. Regardless, there is always tons to do. I am 37 have been on 38+ cruises many of which I was the youngest on board, still had a great time. If you are looking of lots of late nightlife, stick with the 3 to 7 day cruises. Only makes sense.

That's right, the seven days or less cruises are the best if your looking for a young crowd.

We'll be on the LA-Hawaii return on Nov. 5 and will expect the crowd to be older. We're 65 and would expect many older than even that. icon_wink.gif What's older?

Mid 40's. That's way too young for us. icon_biggrin.gif

Need to know if the casino's are open on this cruise. Know that you can't on NCL. since its there home base and the ships don't even have casino's. If they do how tight are the slots.

Definitely any cruise (not during the holidays) that is 10 days or longer you will have a much older crowd. We were surprised last week on the 10 day Sun Princess cruise when we saw electric scooter races down the hallways. Probably 60% or more of the passengers were 65 plus plus plus. Thankfully we met up with a group from CC that were younger.

Joyce,

We were on the first of two trial runs of this itinerary on the Sun Princess in early 2003. It was our third cruise, the first two being 7-day cruises to Mexico on Princess.

I didn’t notice the general age of the passengers until the Welcome Aboard show on the first night. Nearly everyone there was my parents’ age or older and I’m in my late 50s. Given that school was back in session after the holidays and the length and cost of the cruise, I realized that this cruise was geared more to retired people than families. I would suspect the same holds true now.

The age difference didn’t matter to us as we were cruising with friends and as the result of a roll call on these boards, we met a wonderful group of fellow CruiseCritic members. We had a great time and I am hopeful of doing this itinerary again some day.

Joyce,

We'll be on the same cruise. We'll be 35 and 39 at the time of sailing. I am so excited! As far as the ages go, I'm kind of looking forward to talking to some of the older generations. They might have some pretty interesting stories to tell. They have had some life experiences that I will never encounter myself.

Nice to meet you! We have not booked yet.. my hubby is now scared because of the age group! LOL. We like the night life but I told him they are ALL not going to be in their 70's! Would not matter to me either! I think he is just thinking of pool side..the dirty ol man.. hahahaha! We were on the Raidance last year and met some really nice people and are hoping to do the same this year. I started a thread under roll calls! Lets hope we get a lot of people to chat with!

Where are you from?

Hi:

We went a year ago on the Sun Princess, 15 day R/T to Hawaii, from LA, and we're in our mid 50's and about 90% of the passengers were in their 70's, 80's and 90's and some looked 100. Nothing against older people, I'm getting there myself, but that was the only negative we found with the trip. The problem was, everyone was sleeping everywhere during the day time. I have nothing against a nap in the afternoon but we would walk through the library and everyone was sleeping; they were sleeping in the seats waiting to go on the tours, and had to be woke up; we would walk around the deck after lunch and had to be quiet, because everyone was sleeping. If we did talk or make a little bit of noise (and my husband and I are very quiet people) we would get a dirty look, if someone woke up. I knew the passengers would be older but it seemed at each port in Hawaii, an ambulance was waiting for someone. We were disappointed with the luau, because they had it inside a hotel lobby, rather than outside and when I asked why, they said it was too hot for the people. We had been spoiled by attending the Old Lahaina Luau, a few years ago. That was our only disappointing tour. We really did have a good time, but we made it that way ourselves. One really truly great thing that did happen was the table mates we found at our table each night. Of all the 30+ cruises we've taken, we had the most fun with these people. They were all about our age, which made it a great time and they were really fun....

Happy Cruising....Anita

Husband (47) and I (49) will also be on the 3/5/05 cruise to Hawaii. On our 10 day cruise a couple of years ago, we were seated with a couple in their late 50's and two ladies in their late 60's early 70's. They were the biggest cutups and we had a wonderful time.

We are also planning on taking this cruise next March. I'm in my mid 40's and my Wife will be... oh, wait - if I tell you that I'd have to kill you! icon_razz.gif Anyway, we can't wait for this trip! We're taking a 7 day this october just so we'll be elite members for this cruise. Now that I'm middle aged, I don't think I'll mind so much being part of the "younger crowd" on board! I'm one of those folks that feel the ship is the destination and from what I've read about this ship, there should be plenty to do. I think Alistaire Green is the Cruise Director on this ship. We were with him on the Grand and he was great, I hope he'll be on board next March.

I look forward to corresponding with all of you in the months ahead in anticipation of this cruise.

I'll be aboard the Island Princess for this cruise on December 20th. Since this is a holiday cruise, it seems there are going to be lots of families on board. I am 40 and have been on other cruises with older folks, but never to the extent that everyone would be sleeping! That would be something... Kind of like the Twilight Zone? Anyway, I enjoy the company of older folks most of the time, but they're like any other people - Some are nicer than others!

Whatever you decide, have fun! That's what it's all about!

Hi Again:

I didn't want to leave the impression that we didn't have a good time, because we really did. (On our Hawaii cruise last year) We're booked on the Island Princess this summer to Alaska and I would love to go back to Hawaii on the Island Princess. Hawaii is my favorite destination and Princess is becoming my favorite cruise line. The "at sea" days were just wonderful. I wish I was going this year, but with Alaska booked and another with the Caribbean Princess for December; I have to wait a year to go back to Hawaii. I'm sure all of you are going to have a great time. One strange thing did happen when we ordered dinner one night. They ran out of prime rib. I've never had that happen before on any cruise that they ran out of food and before the cruise was over, it seemed as if they were repeating a lot of items at dinner time.....

Happy Cruising.....Anita

We're also on the Dec. 20, Island Princess 15 day cruise. I expect to see all ages on this cruise, especially because we'll be on for both holidays.

3 Yrs. ago, we did the Panama Canal R/T on the Crown Princess, late Dec. Would you believe at our dinner table, we were the youngest & married the longest. That's how old this crowd was. Didn't matter, we had a wonderful time. Even met up with people who lived 20 minutes away & around our age.

I say, a cruise is what you make of it.
