Disembarkation Question, NYC, Gem Cruise

Please check the ports forum to info about getting to Newark. My understanding was that taxis do not like to go across the river into New Jersey, and they don't have to take the fare. You might look into Dial777 car service as an alternative, they get very high reviews.

Last time we went form NYC to Newark we had a ship bus transfer which was very smooth... not sure why NCL wouldn't have that option but if they don't be sure or your alternatives.

And as others have said Newark is very close. And you woll likely get in well before 10 am. NCL changed our arrival time form 8am to 10am also, in Houston... a new wrinkle. oh well.

FYI: yellow cabs do have to take you to Newark, but it is extremely expensive (extra $18, tolls both ways, metered rate). A car service, ship's 'excursion' bus, or regular bus from PABT to EWR all are more economical.

Good luck in making early flights.

We got off at noon yesterday!! Worst disembarkation ever.

We were on that sailing too, and I agree with you. Disembarkation was horrific. It did not help that the ship was an hour late due to the storm/high winds the day before, thus not docking till 9AM.

But the main holdup as it was explained to us while we were waiting to disembark was that after the walk off passengers, the security officials insisted that all the remaining luggage be offloaded and then each piece sniffed by dogs before anyone was allowed to disembark and collect their luggage.

We were in a suite so we had "priority disembarkation," which meant that when the dogs were done, we got a few minutes head start down to baggage claim before the first color coded tags were called. That was not until 11AM. And when we got down there, indeed, the customs hall was filled with bags -- all of the color tags. All of the luggage from the ship was down there.

I'm sorry you had an additional hour to wait. It was awful. Just a terrible way to end a vacation.

So did the walk off passengers get off no problem or were they held up too?
