jamesnnb Posted August 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2015 When going into port in Mexico (PV, Cabo, Mazatlán) is it safe/ok to just bring a Xerox copy of your main passport page? Or just a Driver's License? Or, to be on the absolutely safe-side, bring the actual passport? Has anyone brought other than actual passport and experienced any troubles getting back on board (I know it is not the ship, but the port authorities....:)

swedish weave Posted August 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) PV and Cabo will check your cruise card and picture ID when you return to the dock. Mazatlan may check as you enter the gates to the cruise terminal, but usually they don't At Cabo, they will check your bags for fruit and other prohibited items as you go from the tender to the dock At PV, they check your bags for prohibited items when you return to the dock to board the ship. At all three ports, most cruise lines will scan your bags as you re-enter the ship. I haven't needed a passport or copy at any of the three ports. carinainacar Posted August 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2015 As a side note, you can no longer exchange currency in Mexico without having your actual passport in hand. :)
downsized Posted August 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 27, 2015 The only times that we have needed our actual Passport is when we buy Pesos by exchanging $US cash. If you use a debit card at a bank's ATM, then no. We do, however, carry a color copy of the main page of our Passports, but have never needed them.
