Barwick Cruiser Posted September 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2015 On an upcoming cruise, I have OBC from Celebrity, and OBC from my travel agent. Are any of these credits refunded if not spent? The obc from your TA is refundable, the obc from Celebrity is not. I have read that you can cash in your Celebrity obc at the casino after paying a 5% fee but haven't done that myself yet
tgg Posted September 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2015 When you use your OBC, the non-refundable OBC account is always charged first. At the end of your cruise, any refundable OBC from your travel agent is credited to your credit card account. This happens automatically, but it never hurts to check your account at the end of the cruise just to make sure.;)
flames9 Posted September 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2015 if u goto Guest services, they will confirm everything. We too were told the non-refundable OBC was used first. Its abbreviations on the "bill" is OBN. The refundable OBC, that will go back on ur credit card, such as the $$ from ur travel agent is abbreviated OBR. Thats how it played out for us recently. Money was back on our credit card a few days later after the cruise.
mcrcruiser Posted September 6, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Yes the travel agent OBC ,if not used is credited to the credit card account number that you gave the cruise line prior to boarding on your check in docs .:D Usually we like when our OBCs cover all the tips & then some left over .We have a 7day cruise April on silhouette in the Western Caribbean & on that cruise we enjoy $600 OBC . We won't be using the TA OBC which will be credited back to our CC . The tips are $181.30 & the ship first uses the Celebrity OBC of which we will spend the balance on the ship .perhaps it might be worth our while to use the ship obc balance in the casino & pay the 5% . Better cash vs any thing else :D:p:D
biker1972 Posted September 6, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2015 The important thing to know is that the OBC coming from the TA is indeed from the TA. There have been promotions where OBC coming from the TA is funded by X and is not refundable. Other than that caveat, everything mentioned above is spot on. With the new BBB promotions it is much more likely that some of your OBC might not be used and will be refunded.
wallie5446 Posted September 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2015 The last couple of cruises, even with a healthy size OBC, we have not been able to find a way to have any left over!:D Maybe this will be the year, with $300 from Celebrity, $150 from Capt Club, $300 matching from the TA + $100 for booking on the Friday after Thanksgiving, and $200 from the Celebrity Visa, + a speciality dinner for 2. And grants are covered from getting all 3 perks. Happy Hour drinks as this is our 1st sailing as Elite.
dorisis Posted September 6, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Refundable OBCs seems to depend on the cruise line, the ship and who you speak to at the front desk.
tgg Posted September 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Refundable OBCs seems to depend on the cruise line, the ship and who you speak to at the front desk. I have to disagree. Refundable OBC depends on the "deal" you made with your travel agent. We always have a letter from our travel agent detailing all offers that we booked with. All OBC is described as refundable or non-refundable. Once on the ship, we check that our ship's account (easily viewed on the TV in our cabin a few days after we sail) agrees with the letter. If not, we have the travel agent's letter with us, and we bring it to the front desk and resolve the issue. We've rarely had a problem. This is our experience on Azamara, Seabourn, and Celebrity. AZ Stan (FKA Stan in Chicago) Posted September 6, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Thanks you all for your comments. I'll be sure to take the TA information on their OBC with us.
