pejay Posted April 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2004 How far away from land do the ships usually travel?
CruiseFever Posted April 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I guess that would depend on where it's headed. A transatlantic crossing= a long way from shore Happy Cruising Chris www.LifeIsCruising.com Next up: Caribbean Princess 06/26/04 Star Princess 10/24/04 Carnival Victory 12/19/04 Carnival Miracle 03/13/
jhannah Posted April 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Around the U.S., they have to be 12 miles out (International Waters) before they can open the casino. Some cruises will be within sight of land quite a bit. I think when we passed Cuba on the way to the Panama Canal they said we were 6 miles away. I know we were close to some of the islands, but on sea days it seemed like land was miles away. Just wondering how far from land we actually were. jhannah Posted April 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2004 If you check the itinerary maps on the website, that might give you a fair idea. I believe a cruise ship tries to operate as efficiently as possible, and that requires the old "shortest distance between two points is a straight line" concept. (Only dodging to avoid territorial waters when there's no permit to sail in them.) 'Vegas Jim
