Victoria - things to do

Recommended Posts

Ginny; whale watching is a good option and can provide some name of excursions if that i what you wish. Other option would include a horse drawn carriage ride or a harbour ferry cruise. Another thought would be the Royal British Columbia Museum.

Thank you, great ideas as usual.:)

I had not thought about the harbour taxi. That looks like a good option for getting around. I had book marked Eagle Wings for whale watching earlier. The reviews I read do seem good. Any others I should look at?

The other two that are worth looking into would be Orca Spirit and Prince of Whales.

Hi ,, in response to the query about the Butchard Gardens at night,, I totally disagree with those who said it wasn't worth it,, its beautiful at night,, and the lighting is meant to be soft,, its not lit up like a baseball field, its lovely and romantic. Going at winter at night is the one thing I do try to do,, once I was lucky and it even started snowing..

The Museum is always a good choice of activity.

Tea at Empress for those with money to burn,, for others, there are better choices, but not in town( I do not recommend the James Bay Tearoom, its cheap, but the scones are hockypucks and the food is worse, and they served me bagged tea,, not correct) . The White Heather tea room is in Oak Bay( about 10 minutes by cab) and serves the tastiest teas,, plus has many choices of teas. One thing I do recommend is a visit to the Bengal Room in the Empress,, old Raj style lounge, serves curries,, and drinks.. its really worht just poking your head in even if you don't sit down,, look for the old big hand operated fans up on ceiling.

The Undersea Gardens is basically for kids, or those who live inland and have never been able to see anything like it,, for most of us, there are better type places in other places.

Whale watching is very popular here, so for those who like a bit of adventure I say go for it,, our coast line is so pretty, even if you don't see whales you enjoy the ride. ( dress warm, they provide suits to keep you dry,, but still )

I think its a shame that Princess only does an evening stop,, you do miss out on alot. For those lucky enough to be there for the day,, a walk over to Beacon Hill is worth it..
