If you have an "I" product and they have an "I" product, you just put it in airplane mode, log into the ship wifi, (we used the $5 plan) and just text as you normally would. The "I" product sends the texts over the wifi connection instead of via the cell carrier. It works the same as a regular text. If you want to text someone who is not using an "I" product, like an Android phone, you would need to text through an app like whatsapp or facebook. We used it and it was amazing!!
