mermaidIamNOT Posted November 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2015 Is the walk from the city gate by the water up to El Morro as steep a walk as from the pier straight up through the city to the fort?
Rare crewsweeper Posted November 18, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2015 In places yes. Some walking tours head to San Cristobal first as it's an easier climb until the last couple of blocks. You can meander through the side streets and the streets running crosswise on the hill and lessen the steepness albeit you'll walk a bit further. Lard Greystoke Posted November 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2015 Is the walk from the city gate by the water up to El Morro as steep a walk as from the pier straight up through the city to the fort? The promontory is highest to the west, where the fort is. The city gate is on the western side. So as you go through the gate you've got an immediate incline. As previous poster said, by going east or center you've got more horizontal distance but the incline spreads out.
Kikkycat Posted November 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 18, 2015 I was speaking with someone in OSJ this week, who aptly observed that the city is very much as if someone took New Orleans and put it down in San Francisco.
RayInPR Posted November 19, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2015 The streets of Old San Juan are nowhere near as steep as San Francisco.
alfaeric Posted November 19, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 19, 2015 The streets of Old San Juan are nowhere near as steep as San Francisco. Nor nearly as tall.
