Capcab Posted November 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2015 Hi. We are sailing in January from LA for 7 days. Just wondered if anyone knows what the current exchange rate AUD to USD is at present. Just trying to work out whether to buy OBC. Thanks
thinfool Posted November 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2015 Hi. We are sailing in January from LA for 7 days. Just wondered if anyone knows what the current exchange rate AUD to USD is at present. Just trying to work out whether to buy OBC. Thanks Cannot answer for Princess specifically but cruise ship exchange rates are often in the 8% range. A better way to get US currency is to use your ATM card when you arrive in the US. It will give you US currency at rates that are very close to daily market (forex) prices.
Rare Woobstr112G Posted November 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2015 The rates on Princess are never good. You are better off checking with your bank or using your ATM card when you get to the States. Double check with your bank and/or credit card issuer regarding foreign transaction fees. alolewis Posted November 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2015 I am on a cruise that sails from Sydney and per the Australians on the cruise (which is billed in US dollars) Princess is currently offering a very good exchange rate for on board credit. From a posting on our roll call, Golden Princess April 6, 2016. "I phoned them about the OBC as the personalizer didn't make it clear what currency you were buying, although it was odd that the amount was $110 not $100. The person I spoke to assured me that I was buying USD OBC at AUD $110 for USD $100. He did the transaction on the spot and I pay it when I pay the final payment in January." I have not verified this, per current exchange rates $100 US should be $139 AUD.

Capcab Posted November 30, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted November 30, 2015 Thanks. I might $100 and see what gets charged. If rate is good then buy some more. I'll report back
Capcab Posted December 9, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted December 9, 2015 I purchased $110 AUD but it didn't show up on my account online (which is correct when you read the stuff about it). So I emailed Princess who have confirmed that at present AUD$110 = USD $100. That's a pretty good exchange rate. I'm going to purchase more before we leave at that rate
