Eagle4413 Posted December 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2015 Hi, are Trac phones sold in Australia or other similar throw away phones ? I am looking for a inexpensive way to contact my wife while she shops and I sight see, any and all suggestions appreciated.
goodycruising Posted December 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 8, 2015 I just did a wiki search, and you mean just some prepaid handsets from local companies that you can start up? In Australia you need to get your sim activated with some ID, either by ringing from the handset or on the internet, but it doesn't take long. There are some cheap handsets available, usually with some sort of credit including calls, texts and data. Which port would be your first stop, or when were you looking at getting that set up? GUT2407 Posted December 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 8, 2015 You can certainly get some low price phones, like $29. And a pre paid sim card.
Greensteam Posted December 8, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 8, 2015 To activate a SIM card in Australia you will probably need 100 points of ID. What makes up 100 points of ID? From "Amaysim" website: All you need to provide is one primary form of ID such as your Australian driver’s license, passport or birth certificate or two forms of secondary ID such as a credit card or Medicare card. Examples of Primary ID (1 needed) •Australian driver’s license •Passport •Birth Certificate Examples of Secondary ID (2 needed) •Credit card/debit card •Medicare card •Centrelink card •Tertiary Student Card •Council Bill •Landline Telephone bill •Bank Passbook I'm sure your passport will be all you need, and maybe your driver's licence with your address details. lilly4350 Posted December 9, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 9, 2015 My sister recently came over from New Zealand for a few weeks. She bought a phone from Coles Supermarket for about $29 with $10 calls included. She had a little difficulty setting it up so she went to a Telstra shop and they were very helpful getting the phone up and working.
