Escape - smoke from the casino

Hi. I have booked a 2 bedroom suite in the Haven on the Escape for me, dh and 2 kids. We have had great experiences with NCL in the past and are really looking forward to the trip. From what I understood, the casino was originally non-smoking. But based on recent reviews, we are really concerned about how the smell of smoke travels through the main areas and even into the atrium. Me and my daughter are super sensitive to smoke. Any recent travelers on the ship who could provide feedback would be great! Thanks!

Yes these threads can be tiring but as has been stated many times, this is a forum for folks to and questions so rather than groan, I will respond.

 

I was on the Escape for the December 5 sailing. I am a non smoker and do not care for the smell of smoke nor do I want to be in the immediate presence of a smoker. I noticed the smell of cigarette smoke but I did not find it overly bothersome. I am not a gambler so other than walking through I didn't spend a lot of time in the casino. I would not have sat in the outside seating of Le Bistro but we had a table fairly close to the door and never noticed anything inside.

 

I believe this to be a very subjective question similar to food. Everyone has a different level of tolerance. I read review from others on our sailing who said they were engulfed by the smoke. I noticed it, didn't much care for it but didn't give it another thought. I would say it depends on timing, your tolerance and the amount of smokers on your ship. I would think it varies during days, times and sailings.

 

It is a fantastic ship and cruise, enjoy!!!

I agree.....but it wouldn't hurt for people to give a a quick look to see if a thread already exists and covers their questions/concerns.

WOW! I am so sorry to have annoyed you and the other person who also posted "hooray" with my redundant post. Perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to be rude or sarcastic. I am new to this board and didn't see the other post (despite the fact that I thought I had looked carefully.) I didn't use the search function because I didn't even realize that was an option.

 

One person responded kindly and simply with the link to the other thread so I thanked them for the information.

 

I am also not sorry that I did post my question given that my situation is a bit different because I have 2 very small children who are extremely sensitive to smoke.

Seriously though, I hardly ever post and rarely come here anymore because the meanness level is out of control. I posted to say I understand and empathize.

 

On a side note, if the smoke is bothersome to your family on the cruise, you have to let NCL know. IMHO reducing the DSC and clearly stating that it is because part of the ship was unusable to you due to smoke is the best way to get their attention. Tip your service people the extra in cash as the DSC is more service charge than gratuity anyway.

Don't let them bully you. You asked a reasonable questions. One I worry about myself.

 

We have not sailed Escape yet but on Getaway we never had a problem. I am a asthmatic and very sensitive to smoke. I had more issues with people, Okay little old ladies wearing too much perfume in the elevators than smoke. But we avoided the casino area.

 

IMO every sailing will be different if you have a lot of chain smokers there will be more of a smell. Later in the evening, more smoke than morning afternoon time. We dine early, go to a show and then go to bed so it was fine on Getaway. Keeping my fingers crossed for Escape.

 

I don't think NCL has made right choices in regards to their ventilation system. They should have enclosed the casino or put in a strong air filtration system. I have no idea but I suspect they tried to make in non smoking so they didn't have to do that and now since they are allowing smoking its not a great situation.

 

I do not recommend removing your DSC because of the smoke but rather filling out a survey at the end of your cruise. If that was a real post. Its not the employees smoking but other guests

I just got off the January 9th sailing and the smoke in the 678 area was bad worst on 6 near Le Bistro and Headliners.

 

There is a some other type of allergy/dust issue on this ship also. Whenever we were inside either our sinus stuffed up or we had respiratory issues, as soon as we went outside it cleared up. Allergy pills made it worse for us.

 

Didn't have the issue on desk 5 by the Splash Acad.

 

We had a balcony room on deck 12 and after five days my cell phone had a good layer of dust on the screen.

 

Just about every time we got in the elevator and talked with others many had the same issues.

 

The ship was great otherwise, hope they figure out the air quality issue.

Totally agree on both points.

 

If the smoke is bothersome, make sure you let NCL know as that is the only way they will know about it, but don't punish the hardworking crew for something corporate has done.
