Royal Caribbean out of Southampton

Hi,

 

I have cruised with Royal Caribbean previously. Great ship but deserted at night. We were on Voyager of the Seas travelling out of Spain.

Has anyone cruised with Royal Caribbean from the UK ? We are more used to cruising with Princess or NCL where there is plenty going on later in the evening.

 

From the UK are the fellow passengers older people as with P and O or are there younger passengers ?

 

Are there plenty of children during the summer holidays ? We are a family group who like plenty going on. Will this cruise suit us ?

I am looking to travel in July of this year

In July you'll definitley get a younger crowd with more families onboard, we usually sail from Southampton in September and there are a few older passengers onboard but nowhere near as many as P&O.

We have sailed out of Southampton a few times (end of June beginning of July). There will be hundreds of kids on board. Our last one on Independence had 800 kids.

They will have lots to do and will make lots of new friends.

Not yet sailing on her in September.

 

Sailed the sister ship adventure of the seas two years ago though and it was good, lots of music being played around different areas of the ship. Shows in the theatre also quizzes and karaoke at times plus you've got the ice show and quest!

Navigator is the nicest/most up to date of the Voyager class ships. It also has more speciality restaurants than any Voyager/Freedom class ship. I have been on her multiple times in the past year and will be on her for 26 days in summer 2016.

 

Honestly, to me I enjoyed Navigator more than I did Freedom. There were plenty of activities during the 7 day cruises. I am not sure how they 12 and 14 day itineraries in Europe will work.

I have sailed on the Navigator of the Seas, both pre- and post- renovations.

 

I have sailed out of Southampton.

 

I do not believe that you will lack for evening activities in the summer.

There will be plenty of kids onboard in the summer especially in August but not sure in July, it all depends on when the schools break up but yes expect a lot of kids. With it being the summer holiday, it will attract the younger family crowds too.

 

I really find RCI failed on one thing is making use of the pool deck during the evening. OK, if it's cold weather no one wants to be up there but in hotter climates there should be some activities. Most nights the pool deck will be dead, if there is a giant pool screen then they will show evening movies generally starting at 10pm otherwise nothing much happens up there. They might have a pool party on one evening in the cruise and that's generally it.

I haven't yet but am sailing out of Southampton on the Independence in August this year. The main line I have sailed with previous is Princess, and Celebrity.

 

I have been chatting to people on the roll call and we have a fairly varied age range from 25 up to 75 so far, but from my experience if it is school holidays you will have lots of younger people and families, and if it is out of school holidays you will have an older crowd (husband and I are 33 and are used to being on the younger end of things during off peak times but have never felt out of place on any cruise).

 

Since you are travelling in July I would anticipate you having a pretty lively ship. I don't see what itinerary you are taking but families tend more towards the southern (warmer, beaches, med cities) itineraries. I personally am a big fan of the Baltics and Fjords and these cruises are always a lot more quiet and subdued.

We've sailed on the Independence twice out of Southampton, once in September and once in October. On the October cruise, which was 11 days to the Canary Islands, that week was an English school holiday and there were about a 1000 kids on board. We would never had chosen that week had we known. There was lots to do both day and night. I would assume that anytime in the summer months you will have lots of kids aboard.

Sailing out of Southampton the menu is geared towards British tastes . Expect curries on the evening MDR menu with the usual RCI fayre and pies in the Cafe Promenade.

We have sailed out of Southampton many times in the off season and during main holidays,

always had a great time.

Loved the pork pies in the cafe promenade! Not something I would ever normally eat but loved Them!

On Indy right now! Not a ton of kids but we're on a 14 night cruise. One of the staff told us there were 500 more passengers last week (7 night cruise) and 1000 more kids. There are people out and about each night. The shows are well attended and the casino has been open til

130-2 am. These people are sun worshippers! The pool areas are PACKED. I have never seen as many people at a pool. Ever
