ednmargo Posted January 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Anyone who is planning on cruising in the Caribbean taking any extra precautions with this mosquito-borne virus? I'm definitely planning on bringing some bug spray with DEET. Cheers,
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted January 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2016 We brought Off Woods Deet with us in December. We only used it once. Never saw one single mosquito, thankfully. Take it for sure! We will bring it on our next Christmas Caribbean cruise, too.
floridalover5623 Posted January 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2016 I suppose you can find mosquitoes if you venture off in the undercover but during the day I've never seen any in all the years we've been going.
MikePeg Posted January 22, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2016 We have ruins tours scheduled and are packing Deep Woods Off wipes with DEET for the trips.
spyro1952 Posted January 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2016 You are probably more likely to get noro virus on the ship than the aziki virus from mosquitoes in the Caribbean. And unless you are pregnant, you probably wouldn't even know you were infected. Bring hand sanitizer.
Colo Cruiser Posted January 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2016 We always try and bring bug spray. Sometimes we use it sometimes not. We have encountered mozzies on occasion. :(
MikePeg Posted January 22, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2016 We were bringing repellent anyway so not a big concern.
Dawniepoo Posted January 22, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2016 I'm in grad school and just finished a paper regarding the Zika virus. The CDC has issued a travel warning to pregnant women traveling to Brazil, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Martinique, Mexico and other countries. Here is the travel advisory: http://www.cdc.gov/zika/pregnancy/travel-health-notices.html. If you are pregnant, it is advised that you do not travel to these countries.
