mugtech Posted January 29, 2016 #76 Share Posted January 29, 2016 There is absolutely no comparison between visiting somewhere for a day and being stationed there or living there. In the past two years, Split, Dubrovnik, Istanbul and Kusadasi have been perhaps by four favourite ports which I've visited on cruises. I have no wish to live in any of them, but that doesn't stop them from being friendly, fun and interesting ports. Have you actually been there yourself? Exactly, plenty of spots closer to home, love to visit, never want to live there.
Fido Chuckwagon Posted January 30, 2016 #77 Share Posted January 30, 2016 See that NCL issued the following statement this morning: At Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, our primary concern is to ensure the safety and security of our guests and crew. Due to recent events in Turkey, we are suspending all calls to the country through 2016 across all NCLH brands. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and make future itinerary adjustments as appropriate. We have begun the process of informing guests booked on the affected cruises of the itinerary changes and will update the respective brand websites with revised voyage information. Oh, thank god, I thought this was going to be another thread about cutbacks in the main dining room.
karoo Posted January 30, 2016 #78 Share Posted January 30, 2016 I for one am glad Kusadasi has been replaced and am looking forward to visiting Santorini instead. I've been to Istanbul twice, both times overnight and am glad I saw the area when I did with all the mosques, where sadly the tourists were fatally attacked. The second time around, 6 Illegal passengers- Syrians got on board, but were discovered and escorted off. I certainly wouldn't feel confident returning to Turkey. I'm not sure they have good security. I've also been to Ephesus from Izmir (during January), I don't need to go back especially in the height of Summer. I'm looking at booking the 14 day cruise on the Jade, was just going to do the Greek Island part, but now Santorini has been added, the second 7 days is looking good too. (Just my opinion). Both Santorini stops have different hours in port - I like the idea of arriving in the morning. For a Summer cruise I'd prefer Santorini than walking around ruins.
