georgia1980 Posted January 25, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2016 Question: when we first get on ship, at port, can we get onto internet, as usual, with no extra charges, until we start sailing? I would like to take some pictures and share them, before we sail . When we start sailing, will place on airplane mode or turn off. I do, however, have magic jack. ryansmith18 Posted January 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2016 If you're referring to the ship's WiFi, no, you can't do that without incurring their typical charges for internet access. If you're referring to your cell connection, then yeah, there's no reason you'd incur additional charges just for stepping on to the ship. If you're in, say, Miami and have a strong data connection, you'll still have a strong connection while you're on the ship in Miami.
vwrestler171 Posted January 25, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2016 You are good while in port, and for a little while while sailing. Just keep an eye on your signal and carrier. I usually stay on my phone until 15-20 min out of port with no issues.

I'm assuming you mean your cellular data, and not the ship wifi. If so, then yes, you will still have access to your cellular data until you are out of cellular range. ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted January 25, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) Port of Miami has free wifi while you're in the terminal, others may as well. The signal is strong and the speed is ok if you get there early around 10am. After that the signal and speed start dropping to the point where you can't use it. This is due to more people arriving and saturating the wifi link. You'll then need to wait until you're onboard the ship to sign up for the internet through your device using your portfolio #.
