FloridaTourist Posted January 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2016 When in Rome do they have Uber/ Lyft and how are the prices vs a taxi? After a recent trip to DC we have come to enjoy uber and the service they offer vs a taxi at double the price.
CruiserBruce Posted January 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2016 I can't answer your question specifically, but I know Uber has not be received well in Europe. There were literally violent confrontations with Uber in France.

juanarcin Posted February 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2016 Uber has been banned in Italy: http://www.ansa.it/english/news/2015/07/09/milan-court-upholds-judicial-ban-on-uberpop-service-in-italy_5c51e690-a9fa-4c7e-aef8-307df64f3b89.html I was in Rome on 8/2015 (about a month after that article) and Uber was still up and running. In fact a quick look at the Uber site shows that Rome is still being serviced. I'm curious when it will take effect but as of now it seems that it's still available. It's a shame it's getting removed though because when I was out there it's what I used to get around. And to be honest it played a huge role in making this one my favorite trips to Rome. In the past I would look into attractions, places to eat and sights to see and then figure them out using transportation. It seemed most of my days were planned out months before getting to Rome. On this last trip though I showed up, same as always with pages I had printed out with things to do and eat etc. But once I realized how many apps were available out there, I threw out the pages and spent the rest of my trip using Uber and Yelp. this led to me eating and seeing the best stuff ever and getting there effortlessly. such a shame this might not be an option next time. Lastly I would say that if Uber is still out there, the prices are very reasonable. I believe my most expensive ride was about 20 Euros or so. And that was probably going from Termini to Trastevere. Every other ride was between 6-13 euros.
euro cruiser Posted February 1, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2016 I doubt that the ban will actually be implemented, I suspect it's more of a tool to force negotiations and regulation.
ROCruiser Posted February 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2016 We used Uber a couple of times when we were in Rome, Feb. 2015. Very efficient and excellent cars (Mercedes, Volvo, etc.) Took just a few minutes after the calls for them to show up. I was really impressed. insanemagnet Posted February 3, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2016 If you want certainty that Uber is operating in Rome simply install a fake GPS location app, place yourself in Rome and open the Uber app and see what it says.
