Fizzlewicket’s Adventure on Oasis of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Oasis was our most recent cruise in August/September. We love this class ship and have spent a total of three sailings on her now.

And the Western itinerary is our favorite, so really looking forward to more.

Thanks for this. Many folks ask about this observation deck, and your photo guide will help them.:)

I thought this would be useful. My contention is that if my tour/review helps just one person have a better cruise (or avoid my pitfalls), I will have done my job.

Your review has been so helpful! eager to hear your thoughts on Nachi Cocom - we have ressies there for our cruise. So - a few questions. Were the cheesecake lollipops in Cafe Promenade free? What about the tapas @ Vintages - free or a la carte? And finally, do you know if any of the drink packages include Starbucks coffee?

Getting on next Saturday and you are really getting me excited! Thanks!

What was the single best complementary food item you ate?

I really like the Scilian Hot Dogs with mustard and a bit of mayo and, of course, I have raved about the Cheesecake Lollipops and the Coconut Ranger cookies. I really like the Jive Turkey sandwiches at the Promenade Cafe too.

I also found something good in the Windjammer, but that answer depends on the day.

And I absolutely had to have one of these muffins (or sometimes two) for breakfast.

The Cheesecake Lollipops are free and you can ask for more than one. I always asked for two since they are very rich and two was my limit.

The Tapas at Vintages are for a fee. And I am not aware of any drink package that included Starbucks.

My husband and I are going on the Oasis this November. Your review is really helping me understand what's on each deck. I know I will look it over often. I feel you have probably helped me a great deal and saved me a lot of "I think I'm lost" time. This is the type of helpful review I really appreciate.

Then my mission was successful. I am happy to have helped. :D

I know what you are thinking ... Hey Fizz, you ate at Izumi so where is all the cruise food porn like you had in your Liberty tour/review?

Well, to be completely honest, the missed flight, devestating charges to my poor innocent charge card, as well as the overwhelming stress and anxiety of a loss passport and all that almost made me want to not do this tour/review at all. It took about three whole days to just start to get into that mood that everything was hunky dory (translation = just fine). As the cruise rolled on and I experienced everything the Oasis had to offer, the more excited I become in sharing this experience with everyone.

I can't tell you how happy we are that you took the time to do the review. Very well done. Thank you.

Thanks so much for writing this review. I finally bit the bullet & made reservations today for a cruise on Oasis in November with a friend. I am so looking forward to it. I have read a few reviews on this ship & it made me want to do it. I told my DH we will go on a Western Caribbean cruise on Oasis next year. He doesn't fly so we will have to take the train.

Glad to hear you finally decided to join the fun. :D Took me a couple of years of some intensive research before I finally booked and went on my first cruise. But once on board, my wife and I jumped in with both feet and never looked back. They key is to keep a positive outlook on everything (and you will because it will all be new), don't be afraid to try all kinds of new food and activities, and no matter what situation you get in .... just relax and realize you are on vacation.

Oh and be sure to bring me back some Coconut Ranger cookies .... I am missing those already. :p

I am currently writing the detailed narrative of the ports section which includes Labadee, Falmouth and Cozumel.

Once posted tonight, documenting of my adventure will be complete.

Again , I want to give a big thank you for all the encouraging comments during this review.

So let us round out this Oasis adventure with a look at the ports we visited which were Labadee, Falmouth and Cozumel.

Looking back at my Liberty tour/review, there really is not anything more I could add. We had experienced Labadee a few months earlier in June 2015, so our intentions this time were very simple. Last time, we visited Columbus Cove and we wanted to do some swimming at Adrenaline Beach. She also wanted to purchase a piece of metal art with a moon and sun facing each other. Last time, we were not able to purchase it last time since we were had spent all our cash by the first two vendors that pulled us in to their grasp (if you have not read my Liberty of the Seas review, check it out for that very interesting experience).

My wife likes to sleep in late, so since we had already been to Labadee before, I did not bother her until late morning. After she awoke, we both checked out the crowds from the pool deck and planned our strategy. From the crowds we saw, we thought to first to a scouting mission to gauge the passenger density of Adrenaline Beach and from there determine whether we spend our day there or do something else entirely. We donned our swimsuits, stuffed our towels we had brought from home in my wife’s new bag and proceeded on our mission.

As we walked along the stretch of beach before Adrenaline Beach, every chair and every available spot of shade had been taken. Liberty of the Seas carries around 4,000 passengers and beaches of Labadee were very packed even then, so the knowledge that the Oasis carries 2,000 more and the fact that the passenger density was very thick even a thousand yard before Adrenaline Beach, things were not looking good. We continued to walk a bit further, but when we hit a wall of people that never seemed to move and continued to block our progression to our destination, so just we called it and took an immediate right towards the shopping area.

I had remembered our shopping experience last time and we agreed within the main shopping area of the red building where prices were set and there was no haggling. But I did remember a few shops that sold paintings, t-shirts and metal artwork near the red building.

Here is a picture from my Liberty cruise.

We went up to the metal artwork booth and looked at a few different versions of the moon/sun metal art. My wife picked out her favorite and we proceeded to haggle. The artist said for us we would receive his best price of $60. I had only brought a total of $45 in cash, so we gave him a long pause as we looked over the piece, I finally offered him $40 and he agreed. He wrapped tied a plastic bag around the top so we could carry it and we were done with our shopping. I learned later, packing the item in my suitcase, that some of the edges were rather sharp. Ouch!

Having accomplished the main goal for this port, we headed back to the ship for lunch in an air conditioned Windjammer. It was still hot in January.

Well, I still wanted to do some swimming, so a little later after lunch we headed out to the pool deck. The Sports pool which is the pool nearest the Windjammer was almost empty and in the shade, so we decided to try that out. I climbed in and found out the water was very cold. It was not the experience we were looking for. So we headed to the Beach pool on the opposite side. It was sunny and bright there and the pool was cool, but not cold. While my wife quietly swam and enjoyed the sun, I met and talked to a pleasant gentleman from the state of Washington and we had a great conversation about cruising, the Oasis and other things for about an hour. We ended our afternoon with a short nap then watching the ship leave from the pool deck since our balcony cabin was on port side and the ship had docked starboard side. All in all, it was a great day.

Now, we come to Falmouth, Jamaica.

The port itself was very clean and looked rather new and modern and they even had a Margaritaville there.

But first things first and we had an excursion called The Falmouth Food Tour

presented by Jamaica Culinary Tours. I had wanted to taste the foods of Jamaica, including the Beef Patty and true Jerk Chicken and this tour was highly recommended by people on Tripadvisor. Part of it was a walking tour through Falmouth and from what I read in reviews, most people avoided the actual city of Falmouth when coming to Jamaica, so I was highly curious to what the fuss was about.

We met up with the Falmouth Food Tour reps at the first tour kiosk and they said we had some time before we started the tour, so we looked around the port.
