Naomigruis Posted February 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Hi, We are booked in a inside cabin on the Sun North Bound From Vancouver to Anchorage this September. We go an amazing deal on the price of an inside cabin with then UBP and SDP so the cost to upgrade to a balcony is significant and as this is a add on to a USA holiday From Australia it is over our budget to do so. So if anyone has advise on where is the best place to sit (preferably inside) in the public areas to watch the sanitary i would appriate it. The idea is to sit in comfortable chairs with a cocktail in hand and enjoy the view. also any other advice for this cruise would be great. sylva
shadowmeboy Posted February 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2016 The Sun has an amazing forward lounge (deck 12 if I remember right) to which you can see the amazing views. There is an outside walkway out of that lounge if you wanted to go outside. I love the Sun, it is my favorite ship, and I am excited to sail her again in June. don't-use-real-name Posted February 2, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2016 shadowmeboy has it described it - "right on" ! Use this LINK to reference the Observation Lounge Deck 12 forward: http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/Norwegian-Sun Blue box on the right side of the new window CLICK on SPORTSDECK (12) Click on the little camera icons to get a glimpse of the views. The observation inside is great when the weather if not so cooperative. Otherwise go out on the open deck to view the scenery. There are no deck chairs as I recall on the viewing deck but inside the Observation Lounge there are lots and lots of comfy chairs and a waiter at various times of the day when the bar is open to have a drink and relax. A fairly quiet place to come and read a book by day. At night the place becomes a scene for small combos of entertainers and dancing. The theatre with the big time entertainment is at the other end (aft) of the ship but often a magician or comedian might have his act here in the observation lounge. Look up the Roll Call for your sailing of the SUN and see if there is a Meet & Greet started and join in with your questions. Plan to attend the gathering on board and see what other folks are doing. Since you are on a budget you don't have to take wild expensive excursions at every port. Make you own self-guided tours based on the information from others. When at Skagway (Haines) do take the White Pass & Yukon RR to the top of the summit border between the USA and Canada IMO it is a ride not to be missed. Most of the excursions have narration of the ride and features that you should be looking out for. When you reach the Glaciers often a National Park Ranger will come on board for a narrative of what is happening to the environment and pointing out features (calving of the glaciers). Hope that your cruise includes the Tracy Arm Sawyer Glacier my favorite. I am so excited for you !
roger001 Posted February 2, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2016 And for outside sitting/viewing if you wish, the Sun has the Great Outdoors at the rear of the ship.
