JUSRN Posted February 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Any suggestions for days trips from Vancouver? We will be there in October for 3 days pre-cruise. We were there before and did all the touristy things in the city. Now would like to expand our experience to outside the city. We would especially enjoy train rides. Any ideas? Rare Gardyloo Posted February 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Ideas - Day trip to Whistler via the Sea to Sky Hwy (BC 99) - one of the most beautiful roads in N. America. Fraser Valley vineyards and orchards - maybe still harvest time, maybe decent autumn color (or colour.) On the train front, you could take the (early) morning train to Seattle - very scenic in parts, spend a few hours in Seattle - Pike Place Market etc. - and take the evening train back to Vancouver. It's quite inexpensive and comfortable. http://www.amtrakcascades.com/
Rare martincath Posted February 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Rocky Mountaineer specializes in train trips into and through our coastal mountain areas (if you spent two or all three of your precruise days on the train you could take several routes). Unfortunately taking the train just to Whistler is no longer an option - well, you could pay for the whole route and just get off early I suppose... Rare Keith1010 Posted February 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Have you been to Victoria. If you haven't consider a ferry over and back. Keith

mapleleaves Posted February 5, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2016 if you're flying from the east coast, consider a flight into Seattle, then take the train (Amtrak Cascades) to Vancouver. Victoria would be a very long day trip (14-15 hrs) from Vancouver , given that you have a 90 minute ferry to get to Vancouver Island. Make it an overnighter so you have time to enjoy the town.... museums, Butchart Garden, Chinatown, Empress Hotel, whale watching. http://www.pacificcoach.com/ Whistler is another nice spot to overnight. The Vancouver web site has lots of information, even itinerary suggestions. http://www.tourismvancouver.com/activities/itineraries/

Day 1: Whistler with possible Sea to Sky stops at waterfalls... there may be 2 days of activities in this area. Day 2: Victoria and Butchart Gardens.... this can be a multi day trip on the island. Day 3: Storybrooke? Vandusen Gardens? QE gardens? Trains?
